"Feet in the swing over the creek."

refers to the swing in "Seven," which she notes is in Pennsylvania, where Taylor grew up as a child.

In the next highlight, she notes that she "found [herself] not only writing [her] own stories..." showing that some stories are inspired by her own life, which if we can go by facts from her life that were pointed out in this song that match her real life, we can infer this song is inspired by her real life childhood.

"Speculation, over time, becomes fact."

"My way of escaping...into memory."

"Someone's secrets written in the sky for all to behold."

She wants her "secret" out. She wrote this on purpose.

"Hide in the closet...our love will be passed on." A common way to describe someone who is out to others as gay is to say that they are "out of the closet." If they hide in the closet, they are hiding that they are gay.

To add to this... "I think your house is haunted / Your dad is always mad and that must be why"

A reason why this girl might be in the closet? Because her dad is abusive and would not accept them together, which is why they want to run away together, live together in India, etc. (Very ...Ready For it?/Mine/Love Story/CIWYW of you, Taylor.)

"Our love will be passed on."

Like folklore, of course. But another way is through marriage, having kids, and starting a family to pass down that love that started it all.

In conclusion, this is INTHAF's big sister holding her hand, telling her its okay for people to know now.

okay so to start with, every song on this record is, to some degree, autobiographical. some of that is intentional; some of it isn’t, because she has to pull experience from somewhere. a lot of the blurring of fact and fiction here, which is perfect, lets her get more imaginative with her stories. the whole album in a lot of ways is hinged on the themes of fate and destiny and exploring the ways that things could have gone before ending on the way that it actually did go, thanks to the invisible string. using characters lets her unpack narratives and play with different endings and also (and i think most importantly) explore themes and topics that are prevalent in her life but were scary to dive into in a strictly autobiographical way. with that said though, here’s how i think it ultimately breaks down:

exile: mostly taylor but largely fictionalized

my tears ricochet: taylor, shared with rebekah

mirrorball: taylor

illicit affairs: taylor, but with some aspects of the trio and also partly fictionalized

mad woman: taylor, but shared with rebekah

epiphany: taylor’s grandpa mixed with a hefty dose of fear of losing her mom

My belief is that anyone can be a princess. 

And while I can’t turn everyone into a princess myself - this holiday season, one lucky human is going to have a fairytale ending to their year - once upon a December! The winner will receive the iconic faberge-inspired music box and necklace from the animated film Anastasia!
