Yeah the overpaying fear is so real haha. When we were shopping it was kind of dead season so I never had to compete with other buyers (except for one that private equity stole from us tee hee) and I think the unknowing of that might have sent me into a totallll tailspin so I do not envy you for dealing with that and you are stronger than the marines 😭

I am guilty of even after we purchased, just STARING on Zillow at the home values around us and trying to analyze if we paid the “right” amount so I completely get this. It feels like frickin gambling in a way and I have way too big of anxiety to gamble on anything ever fhdjdjsksk. But I think the market is so fluctuating and kind of arbitrary right now though that really it doesn’t matter what the objective value is, it’s more about what it’s worth to you. Would you be devastated if your offer was $500k (just picking out of a hat) and someone else offered $510 and you lost it? Great, then it’s worth $515k (or whatever) to you and that’s what matters!

We just put an offer on a house and I am SCARED (houses here over 1800sqft are at the top of our budget and we need 1800sqft+)

I was in a similar boat to you though, we needed ~1200sqft ballpark (a non-negotiable for my fiance was a room for band practice / recording) and we had the same situation, that was the tippy top of our budget where we are. I am not an ice supporter. I’m actually so left wing on this matter I have been a vocal objector of the way we handle immigration (and have despised America outright for that matter for its plethora of crimes against humanity) since the first fucking Obama administration. Like. I fucking hated OBAMA for his anti-immigration acts and you think I’m pro-ICE? It’s laughable. There are people who openly say they ARE ice supporters for you to go harass. Wasting your fucking time on the beliefs of a random Taylor Swift blog not being good enough for you because I didn’t jump through the precise hoops you wanted - is a vapid embarrassment to anything you claim to stand for. I am not your enemy and I of all people am not your punching bag.

If you’ve genuinely decided to make one out of me after everything I have said on this matter for the past week; if my words are completely meaningless to you and you’re flinging accusations like “pro-ICE” around, those accusations are meaningless to me. I’m sorry for whatever you’re dealing with that has caused you to spin me saying what I have into what you made it in your head.
