Closed Start: Hope for the Hopeless

Henry had spent a couple of days deep in research. If it hadnât been for hunger pangs, he probably would never have left his room. He wanted to make sure he had everything ready before he took his proposal to the safe house. He passed the bar exam and was granted a conditional license to practice law as long as he completed his law degree within two years, which would be a cakewalk for him. Once he threw himself into action, nothing would dissuade Henry from his chosen path.
He gathered up all of his paperwork on this rainy Monday morning, and headed out; excited to be taking action on something for the first time in a while. After his wife passed, he shut himself away for over a century, with nothing but books and occasional trips into town for supplies as company. Now, he was back, and ready to affect real change in the world. He had to forgive himself for cocooning for so longâ it was what he needed at the time, and allowed himself to rejoin the world with renewed strength and purpose.
As he arrived at Pratteâs Safe House, he took a moment to adjust his hair and shirt collar in one of the front windows. He wanted to make a decent impression after all. When he was satisfied, he pushed the door open and walked inside.
âHello,â Henry said to the first person he spotted. âIâm looking for August? Iâm told heâs in charge here.â

âThen you have been greatly mislead palâ August remained in position, lounging in his chair placed by the entrance to the office, his stump leg raised on a stool while he took a break from his prosthetic âheard heâs a bit of prick anyway.â He gave the vampire standing in their entryway a wicked smile, taking far too much enjoyment in teasing the poor unsuspecting visitor. If August couldnât laugh in his situation, then he wasnât sure what he could do. At least that hadnât changed about him when he lost the leg in the first place.
âWho youâre actually looking for is my mother, sheâs the top dog in this place. Though donât tell her I said that, she doesnât appreciate that jokeâ August put it down to the ancient age of the Prattes alpha, his mother had been walking the Earth a very long time and the amount of siblings he had running around the Safe House reflected that. âHey Ma! Youâve got a vampire waiting for you, I can smell the anxiety coming off him in wavesâ With a sigh he pushes himself up in his seat slightly, stretching his sore leg preparing himself to reattach the prosthetic when the time came.
