âDonât worry,â Henry replied. âThe blood lust becomes easier to manage. I havenât had an incident in 300 years. Not that I havenât wanted to, mind,â he added.  âI think itâs like what they say with alcoholics. You never stop wanting a drink. At least vampirism cured my alcoholism!â He laughed. âSorry, bad joke. Yet, not entirely untrue.â
âUnderstood. The blood bank it is. Lets head that way, itâs not far.â He started off in the direction of the blood bank, back toward the street and out of the park.  âWould you like me to accompany you, or are you sick of me yet?â He rather hoped Irene would let him come, not because he didnât trust her, but he actually was enjoying the company. And also, wellâ maybe it would be best to keep an eye on her just a bit longer.
âI hope so,â Irene confessed, âSome days itâs so bad I can hardly manage, but I do have to agree that it is getting better.â Lately, sheâd been able to handle herself, but something about today had thrown her off her balance. She laughed at his joke despite not quite understanding it. While she had never really had much of a chance to drink alcohol as a human, excluding the occasional drink of wine with dinner, but she had an idea based on Henryâs comparison.
âIâd love your company,â she said earnestly. Despite the little hiccup, which was completely her fault, she had had a lot of fun talking to him about not only his life but also her own. Being so secluded most of her life had lead to her bottling up a lot about her past, and talking to Henry about it gave her an opportunity to get some of it off her chest. âAlso, I donât like drinking alone.â
