My gut instinct when I first saw the photos, as they were posted, was that he wanted to do his own photos without the paparazzi.

Now, I see another reason. Privacy still, but much more deeper. In the sense, if he had the scarf on his pants loop, that would have sexual connotations, i.e, the hanky code.
