HEADCANONS
Waverlyâs been shot twice; once in the shoulder and once in the stomach.
They thrive under pressure, often staying at the station long past their shift. If theyâre not actively working on a case, theyâre reviewing old ones, checking reports, or making rounds. Sleep is a luxury, not a necessity
They have considered quitting more times than theyâll admit, but they canât bring themselves to walk away. Being a cop is in their blood, their identity; itâs the one thing thatâs always made sense, even when everything else fell apart.
Waverly has a habit of tapping their fingers on the desk when deep in thought or stressed.
Coffee is their lifeline. Waverly takes it black, no sugar, no nonsense. They always have a cup in hand, and their desk is littered with half-finished mugs from long nights.
Even after her return, Waverly still finds themselves speaking to their daughter like they used to when she was gone; when they were alone in their office or after too many sleepless nights. Sometimes, Alicia catches them doing it and just rolls her eyes.
Despite their tough exterior, Waverly is surprisingly sentimental. They still have old love notes from Charlotte tucked away in a drawer. They remember anniversaries, small details, and always get Charlotteâs coffee order right, even after all these years. They even have a collection of mementos from significant cases or personal achievements displayed in their office.
Waverly checks in on their officers in small, subtle ways: bringing an extra coffee, nudging them toward home when theyâve been working too long, making sure they have backup on dangerous calls even when they insist they donât need it.
The bullet wounds from their past linger as reminders of close calls. The one in their stomach aches when itâs about to rain, and the scar on their shoulder pulls tight when they overwork themselves. They donât complain about it, but Charlotte notices.
Every year on Aliciaâs birthday, they visit her graveâeven after she came back as a ghost. They sit there, not saying much, just existing in the quiet. They also leave fresh flowers at the site of her shooting every year, no matter what.
Waverly occasionally visits a quiet spot, like a park or a small cafĂŠ, to decompress and reflect on their day away from the chaos of their work life.
They have a surprisingly good singing voice, but only ever sing when alone; usually in the shower or when driving late at night. Old soul, blues, and jazz records are their comfort, but no one in the station would guess that about them.
Waverly may be serious and commanding, but those closest to them see the lighter side; affectionate shoulder squeezes, the way they ruffle Aliciaâs hair when she least expects it, the soft âbe carefulâs that mean âI love you.â
APPEARANCE
Waverly exudes an air of commanding authority with every step they take. Their tall, statuesque presence is accentuated by a meticulously tailored wardrobe of sharp pants suits and polished leather shoes that echo their no-nonsense attitude. Their long hair, usually styled into a sleek low bun, frames a face marked by a serious, piercing gaze that speaks volumes of their dedication and inner turmoil. Despite their stoic exterior, Waverlyâs eyes hold a depth that hints at the emotional battles they face. Their attire, while professional, is subtly personalized with understated accessories that reflect their personal style; a sleek watch or a discreet, elegant tie pin. The polished look is occasionally interrupted by the faintest signs of their demanding job: a wrinkle here, a scuff there, but always maintained with an air of collected elegance. The overall effect is a blend of meticulous professionalism and a hidden, heartfelt struggle, making Waverly both approachable and formidable in their role.
PERSONALITY
Waverly is a force of nature; fierce, disciplined, and wholly devoted to their work and family. As Northknotâs Police Captain, they command authority with an unwavering presence, their every movement purposeful and resolute. They are driven by an unshakable sense of duty, a relentless pursuit of justice that often leaves them overworked and teetering on the edge of exhaustion. Their confidence is undeniable, their strength inspiring, but beneath the commanding exterior lies a heart burdened by loss, love, and longing. Waverly is selfless to a fault, protective of those they cherish, and willing to bear the weight of their world alone if it means keeping others safe. Prickly at first, they can be intense and guarded, but to those who break through their walls, Waverly is a source of steadfast love, quiet humor, and unexpected warmth. Their life is one of contrasts: steel and softness, logic and passion, command and vulnerability. Even in the face of unimaginable grief and hardship, they push forward, a pillar of resilience in a town filled with shadows.
AESTHETIC
messy sheets from restless nights - freshly baked coffee on early mornings - caution tape at a crime scene - late-night stakeouts with coffee and paperwork scattered around - bloodstained uniforms and the smell of gunpowder - torn and creased police reports
CONNECTIONS
Confidant They werenât friends. They just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time when something was happening to the other. Thatâs how they ended up sharing their secrets and deepest feelings with each other. The only time the two would talk is if something was going on with one of them.
The Informant A local with ties to Northknotâs underbelly, someone Waverly shouldnât trust but canât afford to ignore. They provide valuable information, but at what cost? Do they have a hidden agenda, or is there an unspoken camaraderie beneath the professional exchange?
Family Friend Someone whoâs known Waverly and Charlotte for years; maybe even Aliciaâs godparent. Theyâve been there through the highs and lows, offering support where they can. Now, as Waverly struggles to rebuild, do they push them toward reconciliation, or do they remind them to take care of themselves for once?
Rival Another high-ranking officer, a private investigator, or even a journalist; someone who constantly challenges Waverly, either professionally or personally. Their methods clash, their philosophies differ, and yet, the tension between them is undeniable. Are they enemies, reluctant allies, or something more?
BIOGRAPHY
tw: gun violence, death, pregnancy, hospitals
Their father, fatherâs father and so on were Police Captain in Northknot. It only made sense that Waverly wanted to follow their footsteps and become a police officer. Right out of high school, they joined the police academy, opting out of college because they knew their heart was in serving their community. After a rough couple of months, Waverly graduated top of their class and became an officer of the law. During one of their very first cases, they were called out to NKTV Station. Thatâs where they met Charlotte. It was love at first sight for the young officer.
âWhatever our souls are made of, hers and mine are the same.â
The two hit it off quickly; learning each otherâs quirks. They were best friends before they became lovers. They were there with each other through everything. Waverly was there when Charlotte found out she was pregnant. They were there when she found out she would be a single parent. It was then that Waverly told Charlotte her feelings for her. Luckily for the young succubi, Charlotte had feelings for them too. They pledged to love and protect both Charlotte and the baby for the rest of their life. The two were married soon after then gave birth to a beautiful baby girl that they named Alicia.
âThe heart that loves is always young.â
Things were great for the young couple in the beginning. Both chasing their dreams; Waverly making their way up the ranks to becoming Police Captain and Charlotte moving from her intern position to becoming a day time talk show host. Things started to get hard for the young parents the first time Waverly got shot. Her profession scared Charlotte but Waverly loved what they did. Tension started to arise in their household as Charlotte basically would beg Waverly to go into a safer profession. Alicia noticed and started acting out. When the young girl was 16, she ran away from home after a huge fight with her parents. They searched for her to no avail. It was a few years later that they got the call that Alicia was in the hospital on life support after getting caught in a crossfire. And if things werenât rocky before, they were definitely now.Â
âThe most dangerous lover is one who greets pain with a smile.â
Knowing that their daughter was already gone, Charlotte wanted to pull the plug but Waverly wasnât ready to let go. After days of arguing, having to be asked to step outside, they finally agreed to pull the plug on their daughterâs life. Two years have passed and things still werenât so great. Waverly threw themselves into their work and were barely home most of the time. The recent attacks on the city had them overworked and they never healed from losing their daughter. When the spell was cast by the Faction that merged the Other Side to this plane, their daughter was brought back to them as a ghost. Alicia being back didnât solve all of their problems. There was still a lot of tension between the pair. Waverly still worked a lot. But they had hope things would get better for the little family of three.
"In the middle of difficulty lies opportunity."
Nearly two years had passed since the spell was cast that brought their daughter back to them. They tried to be a family again; Waverly even started to work less and spend more time with them. They even took vacations and went out to events around town together but it wasnât enough. Back in March of 2024, Charlotte moved out of their home. She told Waverly that she needed some time to herself to think and figure things out for herself. Respecting their wifeâs wishes, Waverly started to throw themselves into work again. A couple of months later, in May, Waverly was targeted and attacked by The Faction. They required surgery and were in a coma for a couple of days. They woke up to Charlotte sitting at their bedside. The two did not reconcile but it felt good knowing she was there. Since the attack, Waverly has been home recovering, still working in some capacity. As of September 2024, they are just returning back to work.
