WATSKY!

Some years past, fragments of alternate universes were discovered to be leaking through a rip in the space-time continuum. Most of what leaked through was data. Ones and zeros. But something physical blew into our world as well.

A single grain of sand.

Recently a naked human being wandered through the desert. After days of wandering, it occurred to this human to stop and examine a handful of sand. They were shocked at what they saw. Not just a slice of tan. But colors. Black grains and red grains, white ones. Even a few green grains.

The human came to realize what they had thought of as a blank expanse was their brain’s reduction of something vastly more complicated and interesting.

The older the human had gotten, the harder it had become to match the exhilaration of their youth. They had become lost, disconnected and lonely. But staring at this handful of sand, they saw a grain that transfixed them like never before.

It seemed of another world. Another time. It was more than the drugs. They were experiencing newness again. They burst into tears.

Infected with inspiration, the human decided every grain in the desert was worthy of poetry. Writing in the sand with their right finger, the human scratched out the story of the first grain in their palm that caught their eye.

They couldn’t get the ideas out fast enough. They started writing another poem about a second grain with their left finger. It still wasn’t fast enough to pour out their heart.

They sat down in the sand and began writing the story of a third grain with their right toe. And then another with the left toe, all four limbs writing separate odes at once.

They found themselves more creative and flexible than they thought possible. Each manifesto was numbered by the grain of sand that had inspired it.

Some time later a traveler discovered the inscriptions. What we know is based on the words unwindblown. This website represents a partial reconstruction of those writings.
