Trump IS corporate America. I don’t know how you get any more corporate than him.  I understand people get all excited because his campaign is self-funded, but that doesn’t mean he’ll actually do anything to bring corporate America to heel and get money out of politics.  Nothing he has said or done has led me to believe he will try to overturn Citizens United, for example.  

And yes, I do take into consideration factors such as: how much experience someone has, how that person handles conflict, in addition to the other points I made above.  Experience/knowledge is incredibly important when it comes to being President.  I couldn’t do it, most (all?) of my followers couldn’t do it.  That’s not bashing me or them.  It’s just to point out how complicated, nuanced, and difficult politics is.  

His continuous personal attacks trouble me in a couple of ways.  First of all, if you can’t reign in your emotions and your words, then you have no self-control, or no desire for self-control.  That’s not a sign of intelligence.  It’s dangerous.  Also, when his rebuttals consist of statements such as, “She’s ugly,” or whatever, it shows me he actually has no relevant and cogent rebuttals to make.  He’s not actually refuting anything that person is saying, because he can’t.  

I did not say I would vote for her because she’s a woman, so I hope you’re not lumping me in with those people.  I never have and never will vote for someone based on their gender, race, orientation, religion, etc.  I do not “support all women”.  I believe respect and support are earned, not bestowed upon someone because they have a vagina. 

Nor did I say that she doesn’t represent corporate interests.  She does.  I’ve said many times that she’s a bought politician.  BUT, whether or not I vote for her (I probably will; if not, I’ll write in Sanders), that doesn’t change the fact that she’s still better than Trump.

Ignoring the fact that most of Trump’s ideas are horrible and they would have far-reaching deleterious effects for our country from an economic, human rights, international, etc. perspective, the bottom line is… 

That’s not how American government works.  A President does not have carte blanche to do whatever the hell he/she wants.  The President is actually able to do very, very little without support from Congress. (Which is why it’s important that Americans also vote in midterm elections and such, but that’s another conversation for another time.)

On his/her own, the President:

is the Commander in Chief of the armed forces. He or she has the power to call into service the state units of the National Guard, and in times of emergency may be given the power by Congress to manage national security or the economy.

has the power make treaties with Senate approval. He or she can also receive ambassadors and work with leaders of other nations.

is responsible for nominating the heads of governmental departments, which the Senate must then approve. In addition, the president nominates judges to federal courts and justices to the United States Supreme Court.

can issue executive orders, which have the force of law but do not have to be approved by congress.

can issue pardons for federal offenses.

can convene Congress for special sessions.

can veto legislation approved by Congress. However, the veto is limited. It is not a line-item veto, meaning that he or she cannot veto only specific parts of legislation, and it can be overridden by a two-thirds vote by Congress.

delivers a State of the Union address annually to a joint session of Congress.

That’s a really shortened summary.  Obviously things are a lot more complicated than that.  I’m not saying that a President doesn’t have power.  But most of what he/she wants to do is limited by the will of Congress.

Basically, we have three branches of government (executive, judicial, legislative), which are part of a system of checks and balances, to ensure that no single person has absolute control over our country.  The President would be the executive branch and Congress (consisting of the Senate and House of Representatives) would represent the legislative branch.  There’s lots of neat infographics that you can find that also explain the whole concept of checks and balances in a simple way:

Actually, the majority of Americans I’m pretty sure oppose the KKK. Even most people in the deep south, who hold conservative values, still highly dislike the KKK.   So yes, he did speak simply, but that wasn’t particularly engaging to the common man.  As far as all the other shit he says, whether he says that stuff because he’s pandering to his demographic or because he really believes those things, I have no idea.  Either way, I don’t want someone who actually thinks what he thinks.  And I don’t want someone who panders (which is, incidentally, exactly what Hillary does).  

As far as him being ahead right now, you have to consider how many republicans were/are in the race (i.e. A LOT). If you do the math on the states he won, he does not win the MAJORITY of votes; he wins the highest percentage of votes. Let’s take a look at New Hampshire, for example:

As you can see, Trump won with 35.3%.  But add up all the other candidate’s percentages below him ( 15.5+11.7+11+10.6+7.4+4.1+2.3+.7+.6+.1+.1+.1), and their combined percentage is 64.7%. That’s 64.7% of people in New Hampshire who DID NOT vote for Trump.  It’s similar to that in every state.  If Trump were running against one other person (like the democrats are), I think it’s very likely all those 64.7% of anti-Trump people would be voting for the “Trump alternative” and Trump would be losing right now.  

Also, in national polls, Trump tends to lose against both democratic candidates (he loses against Bernie by a much wider margin than Hillary).  So I don’t know that he really is that popular.

As far as him holding leftist views, he was never “very left leaning liberal”.  He was moderately liberal.  Not all liberals or democrats are the same.  I don’t know whether this change of heart is genuine or not.  I do know that other politicians have changed their minds (i.e. some have gone to the left, and some have gone more to the right) and for all the evidence presented, it’s seemed genuine.  Their voting record changes, their tone changes, they remain consistent in their alleged conversion.  So unless he gives me some reason to doubt his new found republican values, I’m going to take him at his word.  He’s done nothing during his campaign to make me think he is anything other than conservative.  In fact, Reagan, one of the worst Presidents we’ve ever had, started off as a democrat, but became a republican, and no one denies his strong conservative values (he’s like the republican God now).

No offense, but I think I know what’s best for my own country.  I understand how our government works, I understand the complicated webs of power that exist, I know the issues that plague our country, I’ve lived with these candidates for 28+ years and followed some of their careers for decades.  It is very easy for you, as an outsider, to jump to certain conclusions because you are not from here (as you admitted).  But let’s be honest, I know more than you when it comes to American politics.  So while it’s fine that you have an opinion, I’m not going to substitute it for my own.  I think I’m equipped to make an informed decision about my country.

Obviously, if I take his statement at face value, I disagree.  Because of course, white people know what it’s like to be poor!  BUT, Bernie knows this, too, and has demonstrated with his actions numerous times that he does care about disadvantaged white people (disadvantaged anyone).  He did not do the best job of providing the context for his words, which is understandable given that he was speaking off the cuff. And usually, he’s an excellent speaker who hits all his points spot on, so his statement didn’t bother me too badly. I got what he was trying to say.  

The fact is that people of color, black people, do experience more poverty than white people.  They also are incarcerated at higher rates than whites (even if you control for factors such as socioeconomic status).  They also experience more police violence.  There’s a lot of things that black people experience more than whites, on average.  This is not to say that whites NEVER experience all those things.  But the point is that racial discrepancies still exist, and that the black experience is unique to black people, just like the female experience is unique to females, and the male experience is unique to males, etc.  Like I think we all have shared experiences that cross lines of gender or race or whatever. But do I, a woman, truly know what it’s like to be a man?  No, I don’t, even if that man and I have experienced similar situations.  That’s how I interpreted his statement.

Bernie’s policies would positively impact everyone, but they would have an even bigger positive impact on communities of color, because typically communities of color are poorer than white communities.  

Those numbers surprise me actually, never actually thought about it like that. 

I suppose in a way thats a flaw with the voteing system.

The difference is that hillary is concerned with the welfare of her donors, trump is concerned about trump. why would he bail out or give favors to anyone else? Thats why i say he is the lesser of 2 evils when it comes to this.
