Well, there is that.
i simply ADORE Elizabeth and Hector's shift in dynamic comparing the first and the last movie. I feel like it's not talked about enough.
I especially love how one of the FIRST things Barbossa ever says when talking to Lizzie is "Miss Turner" out loud, while the very last thing he says to her in At World's End is "Mrs Turner".
I THINK IT'S SO BEAUTIFUL! Like yes she actually IS Turner now, happily married to Will. This detail is just too good omg...

JJ Feild as Mr. Henry Nobley AUSTENLAND (2013) dir. Jerusha Hess
I love how he looks like Tom Hiddleston and Lee Pace.
bragging on my own fic a little:
i very much enjoy the reversal of their roles hereāwith norrington being the supernatural ideas guy, and elizabeth providing the hard details. a little microcosm in the ways they've both switched roles for this fic :~)
and also. the parts when she's clearly checking him out but he would never assume that of her so the narration just chugs along:
they are such a delight to write all the time and always
Philippe and Gallowglass must have been thrilled when the late 1800s/early 1900s rolled around and language started to morph towards something that kiiind of sounded like the way Diana spoke.
They must have known they were getting close to her time.
GALLOWGLASS IS THE MOST HEARTBREAKING CHARACTER
What you have to understand about beautiful disaster is that they have a scene where a character is crying while watching After and he screams at the tv "how could he do that to Tessa!" And also somebody stands behind Dylan Sprouse in a FUCKING TREVOR T-shirt (After 2 Reference)

Beautiful Wedding is Batshit Insane!
Okay why is nobody talking about the coked out fever dream that is Beautiful Wedding!?
I've seen commentaries on Beautiful Disaster, which is how I discovered these gloriously terrible movies in the first place, but for some unknown reason, I've found nothing on the (imo far superior) sequel. This is a horrible missed opportunity for the commentary genre and the general public at large who may never get to experience this... experience without the proper publicity. I am in no way the best person for this job, but unfortunately, no one else seems willing, so here we go.
Beautiful Disaster was an objectively bad movie, but I thought it was fun in a very wattpad-esque way. With Dylan Sprouse as a bad boy underground boxer whose most frequent line is "pigeon", you know you're in for a cringey good time.
However, that movie does not hold a candle to the ridiculously awful Beautiful Wedding.
While I wouldn't say Beautiful Disaster was serious in any way, it really felt like everyone involved just gave up all pretense of making, like, an actual movie with the sequel. From what little I know about the book, this movie is completely new material, and oddly enough, I think that worked in its favor. Almost immediately, you just feel a different vibe that lets you know no one making this has any misconceptions about what they're creating. They all know they're making garbage, and they're having fun doing it, which makes it all the more hilarious. The plot is all over the place, the characters make no sense, everything is over the top and beyond nonsensical, and it's great because they lean into it.
There's this one scene near the end where, I shit you not, Dylan Sprouse is on a roof, he sees Abby absolutely caked in mud, he jumps off the roof in slow motion, and lands in a superhero pose. Then they make out while the camera circles them.
Truly it is a shining example of cinema.
Genuinely, I loved watching this movie and will definitely be watching it again. Would recommend to anyone looking for a fun time.
God I adore how the ships in potc are characters in their own right!!!! Their reputations loom over the narrative in the same breath as their captainsā and they are just as loved and cared for and essential as any other character!! They are so inextricably tied to their crews that they even have a share in their curses like they were living too
The Black Pearlā¦Jack sees her as synonymous with freedom (ironic given he sold his soul to save her) and values her more than anything, and she is perfectly fitted to him in turn, especially with her figurehead holding forth a little bird in flight. Sheās scarred just as much as he is with her blackened hull and their shared past. And then when Barbossa is in possession of her and the whole crew is cursed with undeath, their bones showing through in the moonlight, her sails become as tattered as their exposed ribs, and yet sheās still as fast as she ever was. And then, reunited with her first captain once more, her sails are patched up, the curse lifted. They enjoy even more adventures together in the time they have left, free and wholeāuntil they both perish together, yet again.
The Flying Dutchman I love herā¦sheās such a beautiful ship and obviously so carefully crafted, sooo much beautiful woodworkā¦no idea if Jones had her before Calypso charged him with the duties of psychopomp but sheās certainly perfectly fitted to the role, with how she looks made out of the seas themselves, and passes through them just as easily. Sheās just so Creatureāat her prow is more of a gaping maw than a figurehead, implying she is the beast it belongs to. Although her captain has little pity for the souls he amasses on her decks, she is a kinder mistress, wrapping the unfortunate into her crusty embraceāpart of the ship, part of the crew, and she does not abandon her own. She pipes out the song of the sea as she sails through cursed waters. Like the Pearl, she too is changed when the curse is removed from her crew, with extra bits of encrusted sealife washing away as she bursts from the deep with a new captain, restored to her old mission.
Love that thereās no āohh Elizabeth stay back weāll protect youā from any of the pirates at least. Nope she gets on the ship and sheās immediately shouting orders and the first battle they get into she no hesitation picks up a rifle and starts shooting. And then Will teaches her to use a sword and she becomes unstoppable. Equality. She was so meant to be a pirate
"Do I have a chance without them?"
"A chance of what?"
"To convince you to love me again. Even if you don't remember the first time."
Oh my god, my crying heart ššššššš
Do y'all ever find solace in the actor once your favorite character is killed in a movie?
Like yes James Norrington deserved so much better and my baby is dead and oh my god I want to die but hey look at Jack Davenport! Look at him doing his stunts! Look at him laughing at Keira's shenanigans! Look at him smiling at Johnny Depp and calling him darling!
It just cures my character death depression

My favorite part of the PotC fandom is that AWE said James Norrington is dead-dead. And we collectively said No.
i'm reading legends of the brethren rn and let me tell you it's been an experience so far
