This chapter has also given us a very clear look into something thats been hinted at so far: Chihiro is not built for this whole, edgy revenge story.
While chihiro does cut down nameless gangsters every other chapter, every time he is able to even form a semblence of a connection with someone, he becomes emotionally invested in thier well being. We saw it with Char, Hakuri, and now, Tenri.
Especially since in this chapter, he gets to see 2 things for the first time:
1. How Tenri mirrors his own instinct to make his own Father proud, hence why he faces Tenri head on rather than let his ability time out.
2. He gets to see the ripples his father's legacy have created, and how it can cause not just death, but tragedy.
Hell, even when faced with a member of the Hishaku, we see that he quickly abandons any thought of "the mission" and only wishes to know why his father was killed.
Chihiro is at his core, a boy trying to come to terms with his father's death, and while at the beginning it seems revenge was his goal, it seems, at least for now, he really just wants closure.
Another thing to mention is that Chihiro grew up in a fairly normal, stable childhood. Hakuri on the other hand, is the son of one of the biggest crime families in the country. He has probably witnessed scenes far more horrific than what we have been shown. It's no wonder he shows almost no reaction to Tenri, his brother, and how he has essentially been blown limb from limb. Hakuri after todays chapter, I would argue, is even better suited mentally for a bloody, revenge spree, as the only thing holding him back was decades of abuse leading to self doubt.
Sorry for the rant, but this fucking manga is so so good, and how we are really delving deep into the motivations, actions, and inner workings of each of these characters. Hokazono is a god, as somehow, character not only are written as foils, but as foils for other characters as well. Hakuri and chihiro are an example, but Hakuri and Char also have similar stories. Please please read this manga, you will not regret it
