Taking it into really broad pretentious terms, anthropomorphism in art as a means of communicating human conditions, beliefs, ideals, desires, etc, is to some extent a human universal which this subculture is certainly an example of, but it IS just an example (you can joke about historical forms of anthopomorphism in art as being the same thing as furry art all you want but like, it's just not lol).
