I'm probably worried for nothing. But I wish people would stop telling me to just trust Rolin Jones. I trust no man.
What dont you like about this version of Gabriella?
As a character i find her very interesting and i have no real issues with her presence in the season. But like, as a person, shes just kinda awful. I cant find a character likeable if she touches up her own son and constantly pushes his boundries.
I like her in the books. I understand her a lot more and can sympathise with her to a greater extent. Plus her relationship with lestat is not as harmful as i find it to be in the show.
I do hate that in the show they've seemingly erased her transmasculine qualites and struggles. And the blonde bob is fucking awful.
This season is really making me appreciate Anne Rice's beautiful writing even more. No shade.
I feel like seasons 1 & 2 took the most powerful and beautiful parts of the book and built on them. I could really feel Anne's voice and the essence and meaning of the books, even amplified by the changes made to the characters and storyline. I'm just not feeling that with the new season. Yes, the tone of TVL book is different to that of IWTV book, but there was still a beautiful introspectiveness with profound prose and philisophical questioning. It wasn't the complete 180Β° in tone that people like to say it is, and that the show has seemingly ran with. Lestat is a very intelligent and beautiful character, with a voice that should be used for more than cracking a million dick jokes and spewing brainrot. For me, the show has not really built upon or even emphasised any of the most powerful parts of Lestat's backstory and childhood. Yes his relationship with Gabrielle is integral to his character, and I do like what the show is doing with it, but I worry they're focusing on it too much at the expense of the other influences on his development (the wolves, the theatre troup, the monastery, etc). And as for the more subtle details, I feel the tone of his childhood home and what made his upbringing truly awful has been really lost.
I am aware that the approach to the storyline of this season has not been linear and we may re-visit much of Lestat's backstory, but there are only 7 episodes in this season. If they've wasted 2 episodes on whatever the fuck was happening in episode 1, and that 100 year long strip club scene in the latest one, I really worry for the future episodes. I want it to get serious and actually explore the book, and have a scene set in the 1700s last more than a few minutes. I love Lestat and I love his book with my whole heart, I just want them to do him justice.
That all being said, I'm very excited for next week and nickistat.
wow i really hate gabriella

"I can see why you gave him a daughter. I can see why you took her back."
Girl.

The wolfkiller scene should've taken place in winter. There should've been snow. You can't change my mind.
lestat spending the episode trying to get around explaining the incestual relationship with his mother and then at the end defensively saying that it's different for vampires even though they have to come up with cover stories for other people and both acknowledge that it's not normal and lestat told louis his mother was dead to avoid explaining it
It's very hard to have an open mind to these changes when i hold the book so close to my heart. However i am really enjoying the season!
