The last time Bob Vylan were at Glastonbury was in 2022, and they played a significantly smaller set. It's incredible to see how far they've come in 3 years! Here’s the last song they played today, performed in 2022:

And to support them independently, their music is on Bandcamp. They are one of the most important independent voices in British music right now, it's political punk rock that directly addresses the issues of today: cost of living, wealth inequality, police brutality, health. Health is Welath starts with the line "The state need not kill those that are killing themselves/Don't make it an easy job for them". The album is called Price of Life. Extremely pertinent in 2022, even more now.

The first album was We Live Here. Very important album to have come out in 2020, at the height of BLM momentum. "We didn't appear out of thin air, we live here!" was incredible to hear in a song. No one was doing it like them at the time! Personally also a big fan of "I heard you want your country back. Shut the fuck up!" and "Me too!" Didn't realise that was an option before. Genuinely hilarious and very empowering. A must-listen (possibly must-buy) album.

The latest album, Humble as the Sun is a much more positive experience: affirmations, growth, Black joy, solidarity and an appeal to get through it all together. They have a song called Dream Big, and Bobby Vylan (singer)’s daughter joined them onstage today at Glasto to do the backing vocals and I genuinely cried. He said, “we’re independent, we’ve been working away at this for a long time. We’re made it this far. If you can dream it, you can do it. If we did it, you can do it!” And girl, I had tears. I’m genuinely dismayed their set was taken down because I could’ve watched that moment 15 times on repeat, it was so lovely.

Their music is on streaming, but consider buying the album to support them (hence the Bandcamp links). They are entirely independent, no label, no financial backing, it lets them speak uncensored. They also reached the top 20 on the UK albums charts with Humble As The Sun, completely independently, and have reached the heights of Coachella and Glastonbury. It's incredible to have done entirely DIY.

I listened to Bob Vylan's album from last year, 'Humble as the Sun' it felt like something I needed, NEEDED. to hear.

It's powerful, it's raw, it's funny, it's current, it felt like exactly how I felt by someone that knew how to word it perfectly.

"Today, a good many people would have you believe a punk band is the number one threat to world peace. Last week it was a Palestine pressure group, the week before that it was another band.

We are not for the death of Jews, Arabs or any other race or group of people. We are for the dismantling of a violent military machine. A machine whose own soldiers were told to use 'unnecessary lethal force' against innocent civilians waiting for aid. A machine that has destroyed much of Gaza.

We, like those in the spotlight before us, are not the story. We are a distraction from the story. And whatever sanctions we receive will be a distraction.

The government doesn't want us to ask why they remain silent in the face of this atrocity? To ask why they aren't doing more to stop the killing? To feed the starving?

The more time they talk about Bob Vylan, the less time they spend answering for their criminal inaction.

We are being targeted for speaking up. We are not the first. We will not be the last. And if you care for the sanctity of human life and freedom of speech, we urge you to speak up, too."
