Their Heart A Hive by Fox N. Locke
You’ve been summoned to Honeymoore Manor. Will you discover its secrets in this unique spin on the vampire story?
Lowen’s a lowborn boy dealing with grief and battling bad luck when he’s summoned to Honeymoore Manor.
Within its walls, he finds a new family and becomes entangled in the life of genderqueer aristocrat, Tamorna Rosen Roane, and his strange hive of bees. But behind every bee is a sting.
Drawing inspiration from Dracula and Jane Eyre, Cornish folklore and Arthuriana, this sensuous gothic re-imagines the Regency as a queer normative world without a boundary between myth and reality.
A story of shanties and secrets, of long dead giants and merfolk that mind the sea, where piskies provide luck and the beast of Brasbudfand stalks the night.
Balancing the macabre and the absurd, Their Heart A Hive offers a lyrical fable about the power of kindness and how no one is ever beyond help.
Becoming a Queen by Dan Clay
I went into this book expecting another easy summer read about high school boys falling in love and crossdressing/drag. This book is that, but also more. There are trigger warnings for people who need them.
This starts out as a typical coming of age story. Mark already knows he‘s gay and his school also knows he’s gay, because he’s dating a hot and popular guy.
Until Mark puts on a dress and likes it. Likes it a lot. Likes it better than he should. His boyfriend doesn’t like Mark being to…let’s say feminine and eventually they break up.
There is a lot going on in this book and I want to avoid any spoilers. Sufficient to say that things aren’t all rosy at home. Mark’s brother is hiding things from him, so are his parents. His best friend has to change schools and then there is this boy he never noticed before. Ezra doesn’t seem to want Mark to be someone he isn’t. The problem is that Mark doesn’t even know who he is yet.
I enjoyed this book very much. The characters are interesting, the story well written and it doesn’t shy away from heavy themes. Again: the trigger warnings.
Is this an easy summer read? No. Would I recommend this book? Yes. Especially for people who are interested in drag or like to read about boys in dresses.
Til Hex Do Them Part by Lou Wilham
BLURB:
It’s a nice day for a hexed wedding.
Nothing about her life with Icarus “Rus” Ashthorne has gone according to plan. Why should their wedding be any different? Azure Elwood has been dreaming of the day she’d marry her best friend since she was a little girl, but with a curse of inconvenience hanging over her head a little rain on her wedding day is the least of her worries.
A few ghostly interruptions seem par for the course for a necromancer getting married. Still, Rus wasn’t expecting things to get this bad. Ghost storms, a fire, and a ruined dress could all be signs of Moondale’s disapproval, or Rus’s past coming back to haunt her.
Everything in Moondale is coming to a head. But Rus and Az have spent the last year building a home. They won’t be giving it up without a fight. With the help of their coven—and the family they’ve built—Rus and Az will alter the course of Moondale forever.

Tristan and Lancelot: A Tale of Two Knights by Janes Persichetti & LS Biehler
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
[instagram]
This was such a great Arthurian story! I love Arthurian tales and despite me taking a moment to get into it, this one didn’t end up disappointing at all.
I really loved this trio and their road trip adventure. Despite Tristan and Lancelot being the titular characters, Morgan played an equally important role in this story. These three and the unlikely friendships they formed made me so happy. I loved how they gradually got closer as their journey went on.
The romance between Tristan and Lancelot was really sweet and definitely gave me all the soft, gooey feelings.
The plot with Merlin missing and the fae returning was really interesting and I enjoyed how it all played out.

Date Me, Bryson Keller by Kevin van Whye
This is a very cute coming out and coming of age story, based on a manga. If you read the manga with the same premise and liked it, you might enjoy this too. That said, I still feel that the manga is vastly different from this book. The setting, the themes and POC make the difference.
So what is this about?
Bryson Keller took on a dare to date anyone who asks him out on Monday morning, for exactly one week. What he didn’t expect is to be asked out by a boy, but he agrees to it anyway. In secret, because no way the school can know about this.
Kai, the boy who asked Bryson out, didn’t think he would say yes, and now he’s navigating this secret relationship with his crush. But with every day and every hour they spend together it feels less and less like a dare or a game and more like it might be the real thing.
The premise of this is fun and a bit wacky, but then these are teenagers. The story is sweet, both of the boys are well fleshed out and the books has it’s funny and sweet moments. But it also deals with figuring out your identity and sexuality and how to navigate the world when you’re queer.
This is a really good summer read. I mean the cute cover alone makes you want to pick it up.
This book was great fun.
Mine by M. Caspian
This novella is filthy Daddy-kink erotica. And I could leave it there, because I know some of you would jump on that. 😊
But I feel like I need to tell you a tiny bit more about this book because I was surprised how much I enjoyed it.
The premise is nothing new. A boy lusting after an older man, in this case his best friend’s dad. And the dad is well aware that this boy is lusting after him but keeping his own desires in check. The lusting on Noah’s part starts pretty young; the language is very explicit, and the mindfuck is top-notch, as expected from M. Caspian.
There are some tender moments here too, but mostly it’s a slippery slide into a thing that is less than healthy. Some parts made me slightly unformattable, but not enough to stop reading. People who love darker romances and are looking for the WTF moments in romance and erotica books will love this one for sure. The sexy dialogue is freaking sexy; the tension between them is excellent. For everyone who likes daddy-kink, an older and dominant man teaching a boy how to be a good pet and morally grey characters.
Waiting for Ru by Barbara Elsborg
This is the fourth book in the Unfinished Business series but can be read on its own. The other books provide context to what happened to Ru and his family, but you don’t need them to understand this book.
A short summary:
Ru had been kidnapped as a child and hidden away on a farm. He didn’t go to school, and now, as a young man, he has no credentials and no money. The only thing he knows how to do is care about horses. And through horses he meets Jasim, a famous polo player. Things happen, and Jasim hires Ru to take care of his horses. Over time they get close, but Jasim has secrets, and his family is rich, powerful, and could be dangerous.
Ru is a sunshine character who likes to see the best in people, but he is not totally naïve. He goes through life with a sense of wonder, and he cares deeply about horses.
Jasim is a prince, an Arabian prince who lives in exile because he’s gay. His life is meaningless, careful hookups and his career until Ru stumbles into his life.
This book deals with some heavy themes, like child abuse, kidnapping, being isolated, bullying, and homophobia. But it has plenty of cute and fun scenes too. The sex scenes are mostly cute and of the vanilla kind, but they fit the story and characters well.
I enjoyed this book, but not as much as the first one in the series: The Making of Jonty Bloom

Lord of Whispered Shadows by Jordan Ko
You know when a book is good but not amazing? This book is that. I enjoyed it, and it had interesting demon lore, but somehow there was not enough of…everything.
When you read the blurb, you’re expecting a book about a demon corrupting an innocent noble, and it is that, but also not. A lot of the sex takes place off-page, so this is not a steamy novel. The human protagonist Archie doesn’t really have a backbone, and he doesn’t grow one either. Things seem to happen to him, or more accurately, the demon Damaris makes them happen. The thing is that this whole book is written from Archie’s POV. And he is not that interesting. The things he uncovers and that are happening to him are. The people around him are as well. So that kept me going. The world-building is intriguing, but also again: not enough. I wanted more. Maybe we’ll get more in the next book.
So what is this one about then anyway?
Archie is the youngest son of a duke, and as such he doesn’t have any rights to the family fortune once his parents are gone. His mother wants him to marry a rich woman so he could live a comfortable life. The problem is, Archie is gay (and also a virgin…).
He stumbles into this contract with the demon, Damaris, who wants a body in the human world, and for that he needs energy. The best energy is human and sexual, and Archie doesn’t think that’s too bad.
As said before, this is a tame book in both the sexual and the demon aspects. The demons don’t seem to be the bad guys, and to be honest, there aren’t really any bad guys in Archie’s life.
Would I recommend this book? Yes, but I’m throwing in warnings: there are a lot of grammar and spelling mistakes, missing words, etc. And this is not a steamy romance, I would say; it’s kind of a cozy fantasy. And if you’re up for that, you should give it a go.

Second piece I wrote for the @unwholesomeocweek event! This completely got away from me and ended up mixing prompts "proxy sex", "body horror", "necrophilia", "possessive behaviour" and "wound fucking".
Basically, Heinrich got almost completely decapitated in a battle once. But no worries, he got better (proof) due to the King/God feeding him his blood. Though, since the Moon Goddess was involved, it's probably best he doesn't know the details of how it all went down.
There's more of Heinrich being the Goddess's favourite toy here.
~~**~~
It was so rude of those barbarians to break her favourite toy like this.
The Goddess sighed and rubbed at her chin, the rough hair of the king's beard scratching her hand. Maybe it was fairer to say they were rude to break their favourite toy like this.
You're Ours by D.C. Emerson
I wanted to like this book. Sadly, I did not. The book drags, and that says something when it’s only around 100 pages. It also tries to do too much. There is a trans character that doesn’t get the focus it should, and there is an aromantic character that doesn’t get the focus it maybe should. The conflicts are shallow as hell; the ‘major fight’ seems constructed and left me shaking my head. The characters seem strangely flat and interchangeable.
So what is this about? Tyler and Jackson work at the same company and are ‘work husbands.’ One day Tyler ends up at Jackson’s place, and he and his real husband, Sky, proposition him. He says yes, and they start fucking, but Sky and Jackson want more.
This is, I guess, where the conflict should come in, as Tyler never felt love for anyone ‘that way,’ and all his previous partners left him because of that.
There is a lot of exposition in this one; constantly we’re told things that happened somewhere off-page, and there is not a lot of dialogue. Also, in my opinion, there are too many side characters. It feels very crowded and like they’re there so the story has some meat on the bones, because the romance isn’t enough to keep the book interesting. Frankly, this one bored me, but it was only 100 pages, so I finished it.
Would I recommend it? No, I don’t think so. I’ve tried two other stories by the author, and while the short story was fine, the longer one had the same problem of nothing really happening and too much exposition, and honestly, it feels like the author is on a mission to lecture the reader about all the queer identities that are out there. And I am not interested in that when I want to get lost in a romance.
Okay, May has been a strange month for me. So that’s why there weren’t that many recs last month, but now it’s June and Pride Month. So I’ll bring you all the queers. You’ll get lots of recommendations from sweet over tragic to spicy. You’ll get poly recs and kinky stuff and adorable love stories as well.
Today I quick rec of three poly MMF books.
Suagr Daddies by Jade West
Wilder Thoughts by J. Tomala
Master of No One by Tricia Owens
Spooky Level Up by J.F. Miev, Aria Clark
This is a very cute novella about childhood friends hooking up. Ben had a crush on Charlie since forever but never did anything about it. They run into each other again after years and hook up, not knowing who the other person is.
This is not a spooky book, despite the title. It’s a fun, cute and sexy story about second chances.
I’ve read other works by the authors and wasn’t disappointed.
The sex is hot, the book is funny in places and the scummy ex-boyfriend gets what he deserves. I recommend this one to anybody who wants to have a good time and finish a book with warm fuzzy feelings.

Queer Horror Book Recs for Pride Month
Yep. It's exactly what it sounds like. A non-exhaustive list of horror books with queer characters I've read and enjoyed over the years :)
Book titles, authors, and rep listed in text under the cut.
Disclaimer 1: I've listed all f/f as sapphic and all m/m as gay, some of the characters are explicitly bisexual but as it's not always stated (or in some cases I don't remember if it was stated) I've just listed them all together.
Disclaimer 2: These are horror books, some more extreme than others. Be mindful of your own triggers and check the synopsis/trigger warnings before diving in blind.
Disclaimer 3: This list is predominantly sapphic horror because that's what I gravitate to the most lmao
Authors, agents, publishers: every part of the industry is seeing the strain of five years of escalating anti-LGBTQ censorship.
if you'd like to show support, here are some upcoming queer books:
When Life Gives You Corpses is a brilliant YA about a cursed praying mantis who falls for a young witch. Yield Under Great Persuasion is a raunchy, but surprisingly sweet story of two men repairing their relationship. Fabulous Bodies is a horror story about a queer rockstar rising from the dead.
This is Where the Future Bleeds is a fantasy set in a vividly imagined land, where two women (who happen to kiss) are the key to healing the broken sky. You're No Better is a story about a teen struggling in the shadow of his murderous parent. Oil on Canvas is about a woman who finds disturbing paintings in the home of her dead mother.
and then here's a list of 26 queer books by Black authors set to publish this year, and a list of 10 upcoming books by trans authors. if you want to fight back against queer censorship, use your wallet! or (if that's not an option) you can contact your local library and ask them to stock a copy.
