To be fair to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, if I wrote some pulp short stories for a quick buck and an obsessive fandom sprung up around it at a time when fandom culture as we now know it didn't really exist yet, and I had to witness people being insane about my characters while having very little precedent for what the fuck was going on, I would also be confused and frightened and desperately trying to escape from the situation I'd ended up in.
I was talking about Sherlock Holmes with my cool weird 42 year old coworker the other day and he said that he had read other works by ACD but not any Sherlock Holmes. ACD is smiling down from heaven on his one and only true fan.
Part of the reason I'm so adamant about encouraging people to get comfortable with bugs, my own interests aside, is because we cannot have a bright, solarpunk future without them.
A green future is not a bugless future. It is, in fact, a fairly bugful future. If you care about ecological stability, then you need to start with bugs, because they're the most at risk with our current use of pesticides.

Study done using the meadowbank brush on procreate, I struggled a bit haha but the texture is nice and theyve got great faces to draw!
I've always heard Bostonians were surly and rude but everyone I've met here is so friendly. Is it because I'm not driving a car?
Not five minutes' walk away from the hotel and I have been enlisted to pull weeds in a community pollinator garden.
Feeling very Open World RPG about Newton. The gardener (Claire) sent me on the next stage of my quest: to get a bagel from the baker (Kelvin). Unfortunately the bagelry is closed until Wednesday because they are installing new ovens, which I discovered from the handyman (not Kelvin; large man with a handlebar moustache) when I arrived. So I can't finish this quest until at least Wednesday.
A mammologist (Rob) I met while gardening told me that I should go see baby geese at the pond down the street though, so I guess I'm going to pick up that side quest.

Can't get enough free printable COVID zines? Check out @newlevant's excellent What's Up With COVID & How To Protect Yourself: 2024 Ed! It was a huge inspiration in the final stretch.

The thing about those posts Iâve seen about Tumblr users having an odd habit of using other peopleâs posts criticizing a(n applicable) bigoted behavior as a confessional to try and cleanse them of their sins is like. Theyâre all missing the part that they objectively should be embarrassed about the behavior in the first place.
Like, yes, itâs supremely annoying and deeply weird how people will just tell on themselves on this site SO FUCKING HARD if you criticize the way no one on here listens to Black music. Itâs fucked up how white liberals will treat every nearby brown person like their pastor.
But like, they should be embarrassed about the fact the post applies to them. They really should be embarrassed that they like Harry Potter in 2025. And frankly, I donât think the confessional thing is an innocent behavior. Itâs white tears again. They start crying to you about how not being racist is actually super difficult for them, and when you call them on their excuses being excuses, they immediately heel turn and make you out to be an aggressor, unreasonable, an extremist, a threat. Thereâs a playbook here. We canât just be telling them itâs okay.
Like you have to realize, when white people are going onto posts criticizing them for not doing even the most minimal engagement with Black culture by saying listening to rap is just hard for them because they have auditory processing disorder or trauma or whatever, they are positioning themselves as a victim. They are positioning themselves as THE victim, even. They are trying to make themselves out to be the most oppressed person in the room. Other racists recognize this play on a subconscious level and dogpile you when you do not play along. Thatâs how this shit has gone for time immemorial. You canât just be saying âitâs okayâ.

Fun fact for anyone who does this, being a misogynistic man isn't funny just because you're trans or you think the idea of treating trans women like women is inherently funny, how funny do you think she finds your "ironic" misogyny when you punch down on the women that don't have cis privilege over you
also no one says it but the punchline of "trans inclusive misogyny" is almost always the implicit assumption that transfeminine people do not actually experience misogyny in our day-to-day life. thats why its considered humorous and acceptable to do, rather than just being. misogyny against women.
Remember this every time someone says "I don't like TMA/TME" or insinuates that trans women discussing how we're affected by misogyny within the queer community is "infighting" or "discourse." Their argument isn't that they think there is a better framework or that we're actively harming men through bioessentialist hate or whatever the lastest framing they've come around to is, it's that they think they have the right to speak over and down to women because deep down they think trans women aren't actually women in an actual sense, only in a rhetorical one for PR's sake. They think we're narrarively women, not that we experience life as women.
A SAD DAY FOR MY FAMILY IN GAZA
Israel killed my sisterâs best friend. She was only 8 years old.
My little sister called me crying. For the first time, I couldnât hold back my tears. My illness has left me unable to be by their side.
The bombing was close to my family. I am terrified they will be next. Please donate to help evacuate us from this nightmare.

Being prime minister of the uk has a higher regret rate than being trans
So the solution is to ban prime ministers
i bring a sort of âyou should maybe interrogate your so-called âpreferencesâ to make sure theyâre not literal textbook examples of severe unconscious biasâ vibe that my woke gay friends dont really like
what this post does NOT mean
go out and fuck someone you arenât attracted to because a stranger on tumblr said to
go out and date someone you arenât attracted to because a stranger on tumblr said to
Youâre Not Allowed To Be Gay Anymore
what this post DOES mean
if you just âpreferâ to avoid majority black areas of your city
if you just âpreferâ to read, write, think, and talk about men
if you just âpreferâ to socialize with people you (perceive as) your assigned birth sex
if you just âpreferâ to exclusively watch white-directed movies, read white-written books, listen to white-authored music
if you just unconsciously perceive men as more authoritative/competent and âpreferâ to be spoken to by them
this is a post about acknowledging unconscious bias. it is not a post about dating. please stop coming into my inbox and accusing me of rape apologism and telling me to kill myself. thank you

LGBTQIA+ history and Pride Month center on the 1969 Stonewall Riots. This is an introductory guide to transgender Stonewall history, covering its influential figures and what drove them to action.

fun fact about me: When I was 6 years old I sent so much hate mail to the president (the second Bush) that the mail carrier had to tell my mom I needed to stop before we got FBIâd
I was COMPLETELY unaware of the US political scene or why the adults in my life hated Bush, but I knew I hated him because he let people shoot wolves from helicopters and thatâs mean and shitty
I also had a poor grasp on how stamps worked, so given that I wasnât allowed to continually throw money away by putting stamps on my presidential hate mail, a lot of the times I just drew squares with little pictures inside on the corner.
Love, love, love reading more proof that everyone should encourage the children in their lives to write to elected officials--it teaches them about citizenship and can also be very funny.
When I taught second grade, one of the options for students who had finished their work was to write a letter to the president. I would send all of the letters in a big envelope at the end of every month.
Watching my students get more and more frustrated with him (and concerned about his wellbeing) was not the result I'd hoped for when I came up with the idea, but it was kind of hilarious.
See, Obama had a standard packet with information and activities about his dog he'd send in response to letters from very young citizens...and of course his office sent one back to our class every single time we sent mail.
So eventually all of the letters looked something like this:
Dear President Obama, I am writing about the environment. I am sad that the Great Barrier Reef is hurt. Also the Amazon Rainforest. Can you help? PLEASE DON'T WRITE BACK TO TELL ME ABOUT YOUR DOG AGAIN. WE ALREADY KNOW ALL ABOUT BO. WE COMPLETED THE MAZE AND COLORED HIM IN. It is good that you love your pet a lot. But try to remember the environment. It is also important.
