Laughter echoed down the west hall, throaty yet joyous. A low mumble followed the tail end – deeper, more serious than the former, before both voices stop all at once around the corner.

“Hey, you’re the new guy, right?” A woman asked brazenly, all confidence and smiles. 

“Judith, he didn’t board with us at the star– oof.” Words cut short by a not-so-subtle elbow to the ribs, the sullen man winced from the force. 

“Play ISpy later, ranger. Technically new or not, we’re all stuck in this tin can together – so where’s your manners, Theo? Can’t even spare a hi?”

Not wanting to argue back ( never with Judith ), Theodore cast his gaze downwards instead of looking the stranger in the eye. “Hello.”

it’s taking him slightly more than he would have expected to get adjusted to the new surroundings, so as per expected, he’s giving rounds through the ship trying to learn every inch of it. unexpectedly, he finds himself walking towards the sound of voices, it’s ironical that he gets startled when he gets adressed by them.

THE BLUE BOX

wherever he goes, the box is right there with him. he keeps it hidden, makes sure absolutely nothing happens to it, and that no one can see it or lay their hands on it. the box is filled with some of the original paper cranes made by tomy, some of his firsts poems, but the most important bit inside of it are the post cards.

on every place he visits he buys a post card, he sits on the hood of his car and writes to tomy on the back of it. he tells him about his favorite things from that place, the things he knows his brother would have liked, some funny story about someone he met there. and they are always signed the same way “ MAYBE NEXT TIME YOU CAN COME WITH ME, I KNOW YOU’LL LOVE IT. ”

          𝐈𝐓 𝐂𝐎𝐔𝐋𝐃 𝐇𝐀𝐕𝐄 𝐁𝐄𝐄𝐍 𝐏𝐀𝐑𝐓 𝐎𝐅 𝐇𝐄𝐑 𝐖𝐎𝐑𝐊,   the way she sits with her brows knitting the pale olive skin of a forehead and fingertips pensively CLASPED together in front of her mouth ――   there’s a pot of coffee on the couch table,   in midst of scattered paper and colourful pencils.     “ Metallica? ”     It sounds almost quipped,   though that’s entirely due to her desperation.   Fred’s birthday is coming closer and she has both location and catering planned out ――   but unless Sam takes the wheel on the PLAYLIST,   the surprise threatens to fall through.   Charcoal eyes look at him, pleading.     “ She likes Nirvana, doesn’t she?   But that’s not exactly happy music ―――― ”

he’s taken by surprise, his eyes opening wide as he looks directly at her. it’s taking him a minute to understand WHERE it was coming from, trying to figure out if there was something he’d done, or said. his head tilts slightly to the side, lips parting but words can’t find their way out, he simply keeps on staring.

“ fred--- ” a pause, eyes blinking before he leans slightly closer to her. a frown slowly starting to appear on his features. “ if ANYONE is ever ashamed of you, they clearly don’t know what they have in front of them. ”
