No, but what if Camelot didn’t have a dragon in their dungeons but a Dragon Lord and he’s been there for the past 70 years.
Ever since Camelot had been free of Magic and Dragons couldn’t attack it for the Dragonlords sake.
And one day Camelot had a magical danger looming over them. Arthur and Gaius are conversing about any kind of solution without Uther knowing. Then Morgana is walking in suggesting to ask the sorcerer in their dungeon. (She had been mentioning it several times by now but this time it’s bad enough that Arthur considers it.)
The situation is bad enough that Arthur actually goes seeing them.
In chains he finds an old man paper thin in ragged clothes. He looks more dead than alive.
They make a blood pact that the sorcerer helps Arthur and Camelot in exchange for freedom. Though the blood pact makes it that if one of them dies the other one does as well. (So in the future they argue about unnecessary risks that would get each other killed a lot )
Once the Sorcerer’s chains are off he is young again because the time spend in imprisonment isn’t living.
But because he couldn’t practice magic in those 70 years he had forgotten a lot of things and has to constantly research things to refresh his memory.
Also turns out that Gaius is this Sorcerer’s nephew.
They can’t let him run around with the sorcere name he’s known for, Emrys, and give him the new name Merlin.
He had missed a lot in those 70 years so Gaius always has to tell him what changes happened.
Anyway Merlin gets the job as Arthur’s manservant as a cover.
