Jayce finds it all very familiar like he’d been here before but can’t exactly remember.

It was the place the mage(Viktor) had sent him and his mother when he was a child, saving them. Now Jayce and Viktor live in that area. Now they’ll grow together, start a family here.

It’s where they technically first met.

Him early on having fantasies like a kid with a crush. Eventually those thoughts started to hurt when he knew his feelings would never be reciprocated. He opted then to push all of them away and accept the fact that he would just be Jayce’s best friend, that it would be enough for him as long as he could be by Jayce.

Jayce was taking a run around the neighborhood as usual, his normal morning routine. He spots a stray cat thinking nothing of it, until he sees a missing cat poster with the exact one he just saw. He made his way back and thankfully the cat hadn’t left. He had to spend at least 10 minutes trying to grab her and when he finally did it was with a few scratches on his arms and face.

Viktor sometimes looks back on their early years how they were attached at the hip and rarely was it ever that they weren’t together. Always bouncing ideas off one another. Viktor had never met someone who understood him like Jayce does. He knew Jayce saw him for who he was, not like everyone else.

He knows Jayce is busy, he knows that now Jayce has other responsibilities. But… he misses him, even if he’d never admit that out loud. He feels like they’ve been separating for a while now, Jayce running off with his other duties while Viktor is still here in the lab.

He went once to a gala with Jayce. It was a few years ago Viktor had conceded to Jayce asking him continuously to go with him just this one time, and Viktor could never say no to Jayce. He’d always insisted that they’re partners they should both go.

It went as Viktor expected, he was ignored, dirty looks sent his way, people assuming he was Jayce’s assistant. Viktor never bothered to correct anyone it was easier not to, but Jayce did anyway each time more stern than the last.

Eventually Viktor got away from it all and sat in a far corner that no one would bother look over, except Jayce. He saw Jayce glancing over at him every so often.

He was tempted to go to the dessert table a few tables down. He was looking at the sea of people and his eyes landed on Jayce with some woman. He knew Jayce used his charm and his ways to get people to invest into their work. Jayce’s hands on her, they seemed to be in conversation. Viktor’s stomach churned he looked away down at his lap.

She was gorgeous, and Jayce was very handsome, people always speculated when The Man Of Progress would find his lucky someone. Who would catch Jayce Talis’ eye? Viktor saw Jayce with beautiful women and he knew that was the sort of picture that was expected. The sort of someone Jayce was supposed to be with. Viktor accepted a long time ago that his feelings would remain unrequited. To push away any silly ideas of the possibility, fantasies, everything. It still hurt to see it so clearly in front of him though.

He eventually got up from his seat, grabbed his crutch and walked away back to their lab. His presence clearly wasn’t needed, so he would go back to working on their dream, their promise.

He’d never been to another since then, he didn’t think he could stomach seeing Jayce like that. It was foolish to think this way, it’s not like they were together, Viktor knew that but he couldn’t control the way his heart still ached.
