So, I started drawing January last year right
And that's also when I made my OC Vaelyn though he was my Sona back then
After I didn't use her as my Sona anymore I just kinda stopped drawing her. Not that I didn't want to! I just didn't really know what to do with him anymore.
However, yesterday, after a year, I have finally finished redesigning him! and I now also have quite a few ideas for him hehe
I don't have his story written out yet but I do have some ideas!
In this world, or on his planet at least, every being has magic in itself. Magic energy works similarly to how cells do, meaning they are able to regenerate themselves to a certain extent but slow down the process as one gets older. Visualized, this energy is a yellow glowing substance that may look like liquid but acts more like dense smoke.
Some beings are able to utilize the energy within them to use it for, well, magic! This is however more or less random, kinda like a genetic mutation (autosomal recessive). Which basically means that if both parents have it the child is guaranteed to also have it and the chances will otherwise depend on whether or not the parents are conductors of the gene or not.
Vaelyn was believed not to have the gene as he had never been able to utilize magic at will. His parents never minded though. He was one of the younger siblings of four and was not expected to go into the battlefield so it really didn't matter. As he Prince, he was of course still kept busy at all times, though he does enjoy dancing whenever he had the time.
When she was around 25 years old she fell in love with one of the merfolk (don't have a name for them yet) who was the son of the royal family of the kingdom of the oceans (which I also don't have a name for yet). His kingdom and Vaelyns have had a rocky relationship for a while and there was quite a lot of discrimination against each other from both sides. Vaelyns parents weren't too thrilled about the news at first but after a few conversations he managed to convince them to at least give his love a chance.
Unbeknownst to them, his partners parents weren't about to put their differences aside for their relationship. Through a lot of manipulation and unfortunate coincidences, they managed to convince their son that Vaelyn was tricking him, deceiving him.
On a fateful evening, when Vaelyn and his boyfriend had spend time laying on the grass in the sun and picking flowers, he snapped. Angry at Vaelyn for lying so openly and still daring to look at him with those loving eyes, he snapped.
I will not be describing how he killed him but let's say he's the reason Vaelyns eyes are the way they are.
In a twist of fate however it turned out that Vaelyn was infact not magic-less. His ability simply hadn't had any noticable effect before.
The prince laid on the grass, breath shallow and pain dwindling as he slipped from life's grasp and felt death welcoming him. The plants around his limp body slowly started wilting away, being drained of their life force. Days passed. His family had found him not long after he had embraced the darkness and were now mourning him. His mother cried the loudest. He could still hear her, though it sounded muffled and distant. Mysteriously, whatever flowers the family tried to ornate his deathbed with would die within seconds until at night, a few days later, Vaelyn opened his hollow, now glowing eyes again.
Aka. He is able to absorb magical essence, or life force as I've referred to it, from things around him. This results in him being in a certain "revived" state, though the only thing keeping him functioning and conscious is the energy that he is constantly absorbing. He no longer bleeds, his ability to physically feel has been numbed and he no longer requires food or sleep. At the same time, not being able to generate magic energy himself anymore leaves him feeling exhausted and weak most of the time and he might occasionally pass out for a few days if he doesn't absorb enough.

Also, on a side note, I feel like I'm incapable of making female characters ._.
Like, I have one girl OC and she's a child. The rest are all either pretty guys or pretty queers 😔
