If you're writing anything involving cons, scams, heists, or morally questionable characters who are very good at lying, here are some free resources I've been using for research. Saving you the "why is this in my search history" anxiety.
1. The FBI's Famous Cases & Criminals archive (fbi.gov/history/famous-cases) has detailed breakdowns of real fraud cases, Ponzi schemes, and confidence operations. The language they use is clinical and precise, which is perfect for getting the procedural details right.
2. The FTC Consumer Sentinel Network publishes annual reports on the most common fraud tactics in the US. Great for understanding how modern scams actually work and what makes people fall for them.
3. The Smithsonian's American Art Museum has a free digital collection of forgery case studies. If your character forges documents or art, this is gold.
4. Court Listener (courtlistener.com) is a free legal database where you can read actual court transcripts from fraud trials. Want to know how a real con artist talks under oath? This is where you find out.
5. The Internet Archive's collection of old newspaper crime sections. Search for "confidence man" or "swindle" in papers from the 1920s through 1960s and you'll find incredible real stories that would feel too dramatic for fiction.
Bonus: The Psychology of Fraud section on the Association for Psychological Science website has accessible articles about why people trust, how deception works cognitively, and what makes someone a convincing liar. Essential reading if you want your con artist characters to feel psychologically real.
Reblog to save for later. Your WIP will thank you.

It's so maddening that Leonardo Da Vinci invented the spinning wheel flier, a massively impactful improvement to one of the most important machines in civilizational history, buuuut because fibrecrafts are girl shit, no one lists that as his main achievement as an inventor, they talk about him inventing a helicopter that doesn't work. Like, who give a fuck? Buddy, come here, hold my hand. It's important you know this. Any one of us can invent a helicopter that doesn't work! That's the easiest kind to invent!

so i made and account on tv tropes and it asked for my relationship status
i went over and was about to put in “single” or “it’s complicated” and, well..
i can’t deal anymore
and the link……
Oh, this is remarkably of its era. I was just viscerally launched back to the specific amalgamation of meme printouts my roommate and I decorated our bulletin boards with senior year of college.

Would it be considered “gay” to go for a walk in the evening?
yes like obviously
and "gayer" or perhaps even "gayest" if you bring a trash bag and pick up trash as you go
I'm probably someone's "not this guy again" on Tumblr

the clanging of his armored ass cheeks brought down the walls of many a castle
From The Book of Chivalry of Geoffroi de Charny (~1350), complaining about Knights These Days
And they are dressed in such an indecent way that that which everyone ought to be most ashamed to show is what they show all the time to those who want to look, for they cannot refrain from showing their backsides to whoever wants to see them.
What is more, it is not enough for them to be as God made them; they are not content with themselves as they are, but they gird themselves up and so rein themselves in round the middle of their bodies that they seek to deny the existence of the stomachs which God has given them: they want to pretend that they have not and never have had one, and everyone knows that the opposite is true.
Would it be considered “gay” to go for a walk in the evening?
yes like obviously

Killing abusive husbands when there is no recourse, on. But killing people skipping military service? I hope she was selective.
No, no, no... she wasn't poisoning thrm, she was giving them a "potion" that would make them appear very ill for a while so that they would be eligible for skipping military service.
Ho! Much better indeed!

ive invented (note: dubious claim) something i call the bear diet which is mostly fruits and vegetables with fish as the main protein source and something like once a month you eat a few hyperprocessed foods of your liking because that is when you, the bear, raid a dumpster in the suburbs
isn't that like notoriously not good for bears when they eat processed human stuff
It's not particularly good for them nutritionally, but the main reason that it's dangerous for bears to eat human food, whether from Dumpsters or given to them on purpose by tourists, is that if they lose their fear of humans, they become dangerous to humans, and then they get shot.
As a person on the bear diet, this is not a concern, unless you're sticking up convenience stores for your monthly twinkies and pringles.
