Before I comment, I’d like to point out something about the survey design! OP states that a lot of people chose responses like “Can’t Choose” or “Don’t Know”, which does not provide useful information. This, in turn, affects the results of each question, so they many not be truly accurate.
My thoughts are below the cut!
Top 10 Favorite NRC Students
As expected, a lot of dorm leaders/OB boys made it. Ace makes sense since he’s part of the main trio and gets a meaningful moment with Yuu in book 7. All of Diasomnia being here also makes sense, given they enjoyed a huge popularity boost during and following book 7.
Riddle and Idia topping is not a shock at all. Assuming most (if not all) respondents are EN players, who skew younger and are more online than ever, I’d assume this group sympathizes with Riddle’s home life and enjoys the fellow otaku, Idia.
Top 10 Least Favorite NRC Students
This one’s kind of all over the place. I don’t quite understand the placement of many characters aside from maybe 1-3? Sebek gets a bad rep for being loud, pushy, and intolerant. Jamil is… contentious, to say the least. And then Rook is disliked for being invasive, while Leona is disliked for his book and/or his general arrogant attitude.
I don’t really get what the deal is with the rest of the characters on here; I expected the community to vote for others.
Top 10 All-Time Least Favorite Characters
I mean… not really a surprise that Heinrick is number one, he’s designed to have an ugly personality. Idk what Mickey ever did to be disliked (other than not being a conventionally attractive anime boy www). I think Crowley and Grim are way overhated, usually because fans project strongly onto Yuu and get offended on their behalf when fans feel that Crowley/Grim is mistreating Yuu.
Most others on this list were already in the least favorite NRC students list, so no surprises there. Vargas is the least popular staff member, so his appearance here makes sense.
Top 10 Most Underrated Characters
… Is it bad that I expected Jack to be last here… although none of these are really a huge shock, honestly.
Top 10 Most Misunderstood Characters
I think that all the characters are misunderstood to a certain extent, but yeah, I’d believe that top 3. Leona’s easy to misread due to his bad book how sarcastic he is and how be covers up good deeds by misdirecting or being subtle about getting his way. Vil is on there because his backstory is usually misunderstood as the pursuit of something shallow rather than a desire to be seen as “good” (and equating beauty + public approval with his own moral character). Aaand Sebek’s got the whole “intolerant of humans” thing.
Everyone else here, I can guess what they’re misunderstood for. Could have easily been anyone else and I wouldn’t have batted an eye.
Most Favorite Housewardens
Meh, not surprised. We’re seeing recurring faces from favorite NRC students again.
Least Favorite Housewardens
Again, not the least bit surprised. Leona and Vil are easy to write off as having shallow motivations. Kalim doesn’t overblot or have overt trauma on display, so he often gets overlooked.
Most Valid Overblots & Least Valid Overblots
I’m grouping these two together because I gotta say I’m not a fan of the phrasing of these questions. Calling it “valid” and “least valid” feels like we’re judging and ranking the boys’ trauma, and thus putting down some trauma over others’. In reality, trauma is always valid to the person who has experienced it, and it should not be talked down. In my opinion, these shouldn’t have been questions, or at the very least should have been rephrased to be more mindful. You could have just said “favorite OBs” and “least favorite OBs”.
Again, I’m sensing a pattern where the least favorite dorm leaders + most misunderstood characters (Leona, Vil) have the “least valid” OBs and beloved characters like Riddle and Idia are considered “valid”. Azul was bullied as a child, so I thought he’d be “more valid” due to reliability but I guess not????
Jamil being the “most valid” here I think largely stems from the belief in English-speaking circles that he is a “slave” (their words, not mine) to the Asims. This (understandably) attracts a lot of sympathy and anger for his situation.
Favorite Second-in-Commands
I’d personally rank most of the vice dorm leaders about the same, so I had zero expectations for how the public would slot them. But… Lilia as the favorite?! I really disagree; he’s easily my least favorite of this group because of how much he coddles others and enables their worst tendencies. That also makes him a bad parent, because letting your kid do whatever they want can cause harm in the long term just as much as having a tight grip over your kid can.
Least Favorite Second-in-Commands
… How the hell is Jamil second place for both this category AND the previous one???? 😭
Favorite Dorms
Scarabia and Savanaclaw being in the bottom is expected; I feel like most people like the OB boy of the dorm and not really the dorm as a whole (which is a shame because I love these two).
… I don’t know why Ramshackle is an option since they’re not technically a dorm anymore??? And how did they somehow rank HIGHER than Scarabia and Savanaclaw when Grim ranked so low in likability??? There’s no other official members in Ramshackle to carry it 😭 unless you’re telling me it’s the players’ own biases towards their Yuus that pulled the rank for Ramshackle up???
Octavinelle and Diasomnia being in the top 3 is expected; I feel like their respective themes are very cohesive and people enjoy their dynamics. Heartslabyul has the most members and feels very cozy as a friend group, so I’m glad they’re number one here.
Favorite Books
You people ranked book 5 higher than the peak that is book 4 💀 The book where we sit around and do nothing, it’s mostly a training arc… Justice for Jamil’s crash out!!
aND WHY DID YOU PUT BOOK 7 IN FIRST… (I’ve got so many problems with 7 from the length to the poor pacing to the time wasting filler to the inconsistent logic to the lack of long-term consequences; it easily goes in the bottom with 2 for me.)
Least Favorite Books
I guarantee you that book 6 is this high up because of the gameplay, not because of the story. This is where a lot of players got walled by the difficulty spike in mandatory battles.
Top 10 Signature Spells People Want
The top 3 have a relatively wide range of applications, so I get why people would want them. But why the hell do you want MALLEUS’S UM???? What is the purpose of that…
Some of the other UMs that ranked here make no sense to me due to the stipulations. Like… for Ace’s and Azul’s UMs to be of any use, you need EXTREME foresight and planning (which I think most people way overestimate their own abilities for). Vil’s UM has many possible applications, but is tricky in that you cannot lift curses until the conditions are met. If you’re not careful (which a lot of people aren’t), the you could fuck yourself over.

Then I saw Playful Land in third, Nightmare in fourth, and Wish Lantern in tenth 💀 ALL EVENTS I DISLIKE. And Endless Halloween Night (another event I dislike) being put on par with Fairy Gala If and Ghost Marriage (two pretty good events, imo)???? I guess my tastes don’t align with the rest of the fandom’s????

The Poison Apple is such an iconic visual that i wish they’d give Epel an outfit based on it. Maybe with some sort of mask based on the dripping skull?
That might be fun, though maybe not anytime soon because Epel just got the Big Checks SSR and having a Poison Apple themed outfit sounds like another SSR thing. This might be a fun costuming theme for a delinquent event, since Epel’s into the “cool” motifs + was called “the Poison Apple of the Felmier family” back home.
We could have his buddy Deuce in there too, since they have similar tastes in fashion. (I’m still shocked we never got a delinquent Deuce SSR for book 7.)
I happened to be in China a couple months ago and saw this outside one of the mall stores (monster madness I think the name is). I don’t really know what exactly the promotion was and couldn’t find any details online, but it’s called encore squared. The style reminds me a bit of twst, especially as these look like twisted versions of Mickey and friends and there’s a bit of a music theme that fits the joseimuke aesthetic. They also had a few zootopia characters (kind of pictured here).
Looking at all the upcoming art and silhouettes for Spalink, I thought there was possibly a connection between the two. Anyway, just wanted to share and see what your thoughts may be on it, have a great rest of your day!

"Encore Squared" (or "Encore²") is a collaboration between Disney, the Chinese merch company MarchMonster, and the Japanese artist @ug0nba. It isn't attached to anything other than a collection of music-themed merch featuring gijinkas or humanized versions of Disney characters. They also did a Zootopia collaboration more recently, called Guardian Days.
These are completely unrelated to current and upcoming Disney mobile game projects!
A quick look at the comments on XHS indicates that the Chinese audience doesn't seem to like these designs, with the main issue being that "they don't look/feel like the Disney characters, they just look like the artist's OCs in Disney-themed clothes". Personally, I like the designs a lot and how the clothes take more inspiration from the characters rather than the models actually being the characters.
Minnie and Daisy are super cute!! So is Goofy!! And Mickey, ironically, reminds me of Neige 🤡 The artist did a great job interpreting the original Disney characters' physical traits and clothing items into human traits and clothing items. I really wish the Spalik character designs were this good and detailed... Seriously, Neo Michel and Hugh Gardner are SO bland and disappointing.

What RSA students hold during battles isn't actually a sword, it's a baton (a conductor's baton).
It's an item that's separate from their magic-stone brooch meant to reinforce their visual theme, and it allows for more customization in appearance than a magical pen.
Trein uses the same brooch-style magic stone as RSA, since I imagined both following a traditional style. (source)
Crewel also carries a rod, but he wears his magic stone dangling from a strap, giving off a flashier impression (his personal taste takes priority over tradition).
Vargas's bracelet is also just his own personal preference.
I imagine that once they're adults they're free to design their magic stones however they like, so it might be fun to think about how the students will customize theirs in the future. (source)
