he didn’t quite understand what it was he disliked about the other. in fact, they’d even hung around the same crowd, and perhaps that initiated the envy that brew beneath the surface. oliver had never liked to share and people were no exception. everything had to be approved by oliver, at least that’s how it was in his mind. so when someone new came gallivanting into the picture they had to be cut out, or at least shunned from his end until they’d eventually left. “well look what the cat dragged in.” he slurred, knocking back another gulp of his beer. “who invited you?” it was a public space, yet he had the audacity to act as if he owned it. “wait let me guess, my friends.” he chuckled. glancing over at the group nearby. “that’s right, my friends.” the statement was petty, territorial at best, but he was far too wasted to comprehend the words coming out of his mouth.

it was her casual attire, a tank top and panties, her favorite thing to wear when lounging around. she’d spent five days a week dressed, dolled up as if a mannequin displayed in a forever 21. her days off were those of leisure and minimal effort, her hair in a messy bun as bare feet pattered against the hardwood floor. “i got my half of rent covered.” she stated as she beelined to the freezer, grabbing a pint of ben & jerry’s. “my mom said she’d loan me the money since payday doesn’t fall until friday, so i’m good this time.” responsibility had never been her strong suit, peeling the lid off the pint as her pointer delved into the frozen treat. “also do we have any clean spoons? i forgot to turn on the dishwasher before i went to bed last night.” she confessed, licking the chocolate chip cookie dough off her finger.

“so you’re dating now?” he should be supportive, after all they’d been best friends since elementary, yet all he could do was feign such emotion beneath an aching grin. “that’s great, i’m happy for you.” he mused as he took a seat across from the other, uncertain how much longer he could uphold the charade. he thought it was evident, hell, his fourth period professor even seemed aware of the massive crush he’d had on the other. though it no longer mattered, they were dating his roommate, and samuel was never one to interfere. “i just didn’t know you liked him, y’know, didn’t think he’d be your type.”
