Arms and legs with Blender’s modifiers
Purple Girl by vertexcat on Sketchfab
(Concept by Eri Miranda)
In my newest model I relied on Blender’s skin and subsurf modifiers for the arms and legs. Most people are familiar with subsurf (subdivides a mesh, used to get a smooth appearance and/or add more geometry for better detail) but I think the skin modifier is pretty unique.
I like to think of the skin modifier as something that makes vertices 3D. So if you have a single vertex and put a skin modifier on it, it makes the vertex a cube. A line of connected vertices becomes a series of cubes, aka a subdivided rectangular prism. Here’s what that looks like in Blender:
Here’s a video I found that does a good job of showing the basics of the skin modifier. It’s easier than regular modeling because you only have to work with individual vertices instead of a 3D object. Very useful for things like making a base mesh for a human or creature, long objects with variable width (arms and legs), and objects that split into branches (trees).

Oops.
Free from itch.io and the Unity asset store.
Sketchfab stores launch today! I have a few asset packs up for sale at my store.

Hooo okay, taking another shot at this posting-regularly thing.
Another TWIF banner done, modeled in Blender.Â
I keep getting really fuzzy final images for some reason... even at its true pixel size, with compression turned down to 0 in Blender. For post in Photoshop, I’m not using Save for web. It’s a PNG. If you know what’s happening here, please send me an ask!!

Art Spotlight: Low Poly Farm
I got to write something for the Sketchfab blog!Â
Low poly + Blender = the best.
Stuff I’ve started from as long as a year ago. Ahh! Posting to create pressure and motivation;;

Oh, and there’s a new model set in the works, probably some flowers and plants!
A few examples of camera options/focal lengths for the same scene. I picked the already-wide 22mm but that fisheye looks kind of interesting, too? Like imagine if the phone was a building or something.

A WIP test scene for some game assets I made over the past couple of months. Big update with new animals and a barn^^
You can download the animal models on my itch.io page for free! There’s one of each animal, so the sheep and chicken color variants are not included. But the ones in the download are CC0 so you can use them however you want :D

WIP practice piece using this illustration by @amisidraws.
I kind of really like texturing in Illustrator? Adjustable blends for all those dashed lines <3
