So, short answer: were going for Tentacles (roots) and Oviposition my friend.

But to really explain my idea. Trees are sacred on the Ground; there’s an almost background worship of them everywhere, even in Kamuatari, because they can filter the toxic air and make it clean. Which means they are watched over and protected. The stick that became Aibo, wasn’t so lucky. She became infected with an anima-based rot that wanted to grow, reproduce, and infect, so to save the tree she was part of, she was cut down before she infected everything, and somehow found herself in Zanka’s possession.

And almost immediately, he began to sense her need, her hunger, the infection needing anima, and Zanka poured his soul into her as if it were nothing. Still, she’s just a plant. So when he falls into the well and hits his head, it’s almost lights out for both of them. Except the well is damp and dark, and Zanka’s blood is almost as nutritious as water. Aibo finds herself trying to save her host, grafting her roots onto her Giver and allowing the infection to interweave with his DNA and his anima and to grow over the crack in his skull and for a while, the infection is too exhausted to do much else.

Zanka improves and joins the cleaners, but in the dark, he feels the hunger grow inside him. Wanting to reach out and spread and grow, and oh, how he craves the taste of blood again, but it’s not like he’s fighting humans that often, so he chalks it up to misplaced bloodlust and moves on.

Until Jabber Wonger comes along and makes him bleed and hurt like he hasn’t in so long. His control slips down there in the deep dark of a trash beast with a hallucinogen half in his system, he half remembers how badlyhe wanted to reach and drain the laughing blood bag beside him, to soak up all those nutrients and fix his fucked up leg. But he’s wasn't strong enough and passed out, unsure why Jabber is looking at him like he’s seen a ghost or a god or something in between.

It doesn’t come up for a while, they fight, they spar, they bleed, and as Zanka starts to notice how pretty Jabber is and how good it feels to make him moan, the twisted roots inside him sees something that refuses to die, something strong, a good host for it to spread into. So it waits; it’s so patient, but one night they fight, and they fight, and as the darkness grows, so does Zanka.

Aibo, the human she’s grafted onto and the infection that’s warped both of them come to life and Zanka wants to hold Jabber down and drive his roots under his skin, to plant his seeds in his body, so they can continue to grow and grow, getting stronger and stronger, physically changing each other and becoming one and he starts to wonder why he’s even holding back when Jabber is sprawled out moaning like a whore as his new roots pin the raider into the ground as he starts begging Zanka to just plant his seed.

(The parasite/mutation I think functions by growing quickly when it has anima and darkness, but without either of those two things, it can't really present itself all the time. The cleaners just think Zanka has a high O2 count because he grew up rich in cleaner air, and no one really notices how he slightly glows in his sleep because there’s rarely ever true darkness.

As for the breeding thing, the parasite mutates trees and feeds on anima, so it kinda sees Zanka as soil for the tree. Aibo is its tree. Aibo is passing on the infection and transformation when she is transformed, because Zanka has the most anima to feed on at that time for the growth process, and she also sees Zanka as a part of her and therefore the tree.

Obviously, this means Jabber can’t also mutate or change, because while Aibo and the parasite see him as another host and basically the same as Zanka, he isn’t.

Mankira isn’t a tree, so the infection can’t transfer over even though Jabber wants it to.

I imagine once Zanka is done planting all his seeds in Jabber (his cum and the parasitic seeds on the roots he put under Jabbers skin, respectively), the parasite dies cause the host isn’t viable it's borderline a toxic wasteland lets be real here.

Au where Zanka is an only child which means all the responsibilities and expectations for 3 Nijiku children are absolutely STACKED on one boy's shoulders

I do believe that in every universe Zanka would end up choosing Lovely Assistaff no matter what, but in this one he has immense guilt for doing so especially when hemanifests as a Giver

As the only child who can continue the Nijiku legacy, despite their mistreatment of him, Zanka believes that having the life he has is a privilege and it's his responsibility to pay back his parents by following their every whim. Especially since he was a late baby

Obviously this gets fucked over when he manifests as a Giver and he ends up crawling into the well. Enjin and Riyo still find him and Enjin encourages him to get out, but Zanka still chooses to return to the Hell Guard, his responsibility as the sole heir a heavy burden he can never shake off

It takes longer for him to accept Lovely, and even when he does, he barely uses her in public to keep up appearances. Knowledge of him being a giver is on a "need to know" basis, so people in his squad for example know of his jinki

He still strives to become stronger but it comes second to his responsibility to family, so he throws all his frustrations about himself into Hell Guard work in order ro stay productive. Like seriously if he doesn't he's going to spiral into self-loathing again

A plus though is that its much easier for the Cleaners to work with the Hell Guard because of Zanka's ranking. He may not use Lovely as much but he's still a giver. Corvus is the only one who knows while Semiu has an idea that Zanka is PROBABLY a giver. Enjin feels like he knows the Commander (who's way too young to be one, what are the Nijijus even doing?) from way before but hasn't really connected the dots together

Zanka still has no light in his eyes but then like. Kyouka and Goka also dont have light in their eyes maybe its a Nijiku thing

Okay this was a setup for this world's Zanka meeting the og Nijiku siblings and the Cleaners

Gris, who almost died because of Jabber, who was trying to protect Rudo from being kidnapped by Jabber, who knows that Zanka almost died TWICE because of Jabber

Ironically, I think the givers of the Cleaners will be more. Accepting? Or at least get to that stage faster because they have this like. Understanding that not only is janka interconnected but so are Lovely and Mankira. And with how life is on the Ground, the general mindset for them is that you gotta make the most out of your life, so if Zanka is doing that by being with Jabber...sighsss fineee janka it up or whatever

But Gris, as a supporter, doesnt have that understanding. I feel like he's actually the closest to understanding the bond between giver and jinki as a supporter (minus Follo of course) because of his bond with Enjin, but it doesnt mean he's fully in the know. He doesn't see the bond between their jinkis or janka, he sees someone who has the potential to hurt and HAS hurt one of his own

And I think itd be a good way to throw Jabber off his feet yknow...him trying his best to at least be civil around Team Akuta but then it turns out the one he should be worried about is some "weak, nobody supporter." It would challenge his views on non-givers as well

"Jabber, you have to watch out for the Cleaners okay. One of them in particular isn't really...fond of you."

"Yeah yeah I know the raggedy ass sphereite, the umbrella guy, bang bang braids-"

"No"

"?? Ohhh the other two guys then? I mean, i dont know i can totally handle some nurse and a shut-in"

Zanka is willing to stay with Jabber because unlike everyone else, even when he didn't remember Zanka, he was still drawn to him. If we're going with the AU where the price of bringing everyone back to life cost the Cleaners - specifically Team Akuta - their relationship with Zanka, then that wouldn't apply to Jabber; There's nothing stopping them from getting together again. Zanka has all these past lives with Jabber and knows that he's not going to leave him or treat him differently. Essentially, Jabber's (ironically) a safe/reliable person to be with because Zanka knows what to expect from him better than anyone else at this point.

Other concept for the AU where Zanka's pretending not to remember the first life: Jabber started remembering the first life due to being in close proximity to Zanka for so long, and sometime during like their 4th life together he remembers. Zanka looks at him and *knows* it's his first Jabber looking back, but the others still haven't remembered. It takes a few more lives but eventually everyone else starts remembering and now Zanka is conflicted. He doesn't know whether or not Team Akuta would care about him if there wasn't the first past life, while he already has proof that Jabber does.

That makes things even worse for the Cleaners because now they're wondering what Jabber of all people has with Zanka that they don't.

Sorry if this didn't make sense, I had a lot of ideas and wanted to get them out. I just want Zanka to have some happiness and connection in these AUs😭

ACKKK but its so funny that Zanka gets close to Jabber because he thought that he was weird. What the hell. Look into a mirror man you're ALSO weird. And finding Jabber a safe space because he's a constant throughout their lives...

For the au where Zanka pretends he doesnt remember Jabber remembering is going to make Zanka's relationship with Team Akuta take a HUGE hit. When Jabber didnt remember like them he was still able to get close to Zanka one way or another, even if their relationship was VERY unconventional

So realizing that Jabber seems to also remember gives Zanka this false hope that the others will too. That the lives where Jabber was close to him (which was EVERY life) was just building up to him getting back his memories. He waits and he waits for the others to remember, excited for each life where he does get close with the Cleaners but despondent in the next one when he isnt even able to form a relationship with them

It's a cycle of constantly being let down just after getting his hopes up and it starts tiring Zanka down around the 17th life. Jabber is still impressed that he's managed that far in the first place. During their early lives, where danger was very prominent, Jabber was happy about it. Because it meant only he could truly understand Zanka and vice versa. They're soulmates, man! He's telling you!

But then it starts wearing him down too because it means that he becomes a witness to a lot of vulnerablity from Zanka who sees him as someone comforting. Jabber does NOTTT want to deal with all that. It takes a while for him to get used to it and by a while I MEAN IT. Their sense of time is kind of skewed because they know that theyll just see each other again in the next life so the issue keeps getting dragged out until they both just snap. Which also means for some lives even when they see each other they stop themselves from reaching out.

Of course when they reach the point of their new environments becoming more welcoming and safer aka no trash beasts no raiders vs cleaners nonsense no nothing, then Jabber is able to ease into vulnerability himself. Then they get together awww awww
