Halfway through black history month and my mamma just sent me this picture of us, that was taken in Italy where I was born and grew up, where my heart resides, my sister lives and I spent all my summers and holidays after moving to Switzerland, but I still get treated like it’s not my homeland. My mamma is an Afro Brazilian woman who made her way to Europe and fought hard to get to where she is today. Instead of being helped she got disrespected and the only person who ever defended her was my nonna, who raised me and kept advising me to be patient with my mother. I was a kid, who only heard the gossip about my super strict mother while she wasn’t around, so we never managed to get along until recently, but I respect the heck out of my mother for making her dreams come true with her head up high. She left Brazil without a full education and went back with 30 diplomas on the wall. After 30 years of EU she moved to Brazil reconnecting and finding lost family members. After Brazil abolished slavery at the end of church he 19th century there was nowhere for black and natives to go, so they got pushed to corners and into the same labor for a mystery. Without hope a lot of people turned to drugs and alcohol making it seem that poc are lazy instead of hopeless (I asked my cousin when he was 19 why he won’t study. He said: “for what? I’m black! There’s no opportunity for me!” The world seems to be changing but it’s always one step forward, 2 steps back). My mother may have had a couple of white husbands but they only slowed her down and didn’t help with her milestones. OBAMA AIN’T GOT ISH ON MY MAMMA ! I didn’t know Nelsy, but I wanted to be there for her brothers @hengeegarcia & @djevile_1 so I took my butt on a 2 hours Metro ride to Gardena and showed up although my mind kept tricking me into thinking that I’m stupid and they would wonder why I’m there, but that was just the tricks of the mind (even my outfit belonged there, check slide 3 with my new twin). I meditated and prayed, talked directly to the spirit of Nelsy and offered myself to bring her energy through when it mattered. It seemed to have worked because first the train stopped and the conductor went through all the wagons looking for a white phone??? Then I got the next connection and couldn’t find the stop, then I took the wrong bus although it was the right number and time… She didn’t really want to be there because she would want to hug everybody and make them feel better, so I stood in the back and listened to her beautiful daughter’s speech (I truly think that’s all she wanted to be there for). My hands were on fire and they’re usually cold unless I’m in bed. I was in full trance until I passed the message, my hands turned into ice and I started being cold again. Long story longer, I am glad I came through because if there’s anyone that’s always shown me love & respect with no expectation in this town and industry, it’s Henry Garcia. 16 years of knowing the “Latin Fros” with @denisdeft who seems to be one of my greatest fans (I say this with a humble heart, love you Denis!). They needed a local who spoke fluent italian and English so @venusleone got to fly over to Italy and open a bank account. No wonder Italy has free health care: 47% of income gets taxed! Although I’m Italian native, I grew up and worked in Switzerland where you pay for health insurance so I had no idea. Anyways, this was chaotic but fun.
