My new record "Thaw" is out now!

In January of this year, I spent 31 days without wifi at an artist residency in the Finnish countryside. In the long Finnish winter nights, often before and after hours-long visits to the sauna out back in the yard with fellow residents, I made an eight-track record called "Thaw", based on field recordings from the residency buildings, as well as the surrounding landscape. In addition to the myriad of recorded noises, used the instruments available to me in the recording space (a guitar, a stage piano) and my voice, and wrote lyrics that seem to be mostly about what you cannot see in the pitch black dark of the forest behind the house, as well as what you see very clearly in the company of people who you just met, but quickly consider friends. I won't lie, I made this record mostly for them, but I am lucky enough to be able to share it with you as well. Enjoy. Let something thaw.

August 4, 2021 – Aaliyah is Coming Website is launched.

Blackground relaunches itself then surprises Team Aaliyah with an AaliyahIsComing website, hashtag, followed by a promotional tour that would last for the next few months celebrating the release of Aaliyah’s music.

For the new few months, fans are treated with rare photography, Aaliyah on the front pages of newspapers and magazine article, Aaliyah plastered all over Time Square billboards all over the world with fans sharing their sightings.

The release of Aaliyah’s music would divide Aaliyah fans with majority supporting the music’s release (just not supporting Blackground) but this wouldn’t stop the wrath of Rashad (Aaliyah’s brother) from blocking you; who would go on to block dozens of fan accounts who supported the music’s release.
