I already knew that this movie wouldn’t be overly enjoyable to me when it was first announced because there’s is no way you can do a journey that was in total 20 years long justice within the time of a feature film. I also completely understand that as a 20y female history student I’m most likely not the target audience for this film (even though I should be but that’s beside the point)

My biggest fear with this movie is that it’s going to become another film that manosphere men can watch and then go ‘oh bro I’m so Odysseus’ because with what I’ve seen from the trailer and casting choices it really does seem like it’s going that way.

For anyone who thinks that this film might be interesting I urge you to read the actual myth. The Odyssey is one of the most popular myths to come out of Ancient Greece and there a million ways to read it. Because no you cannot relate to Odysseus because this is a man that pretended to be insane to try and escape conscription but stopped when they risked his son’s life. He’s a man who doesn’t his entire time at sea thinking about returning to his wife and son. He’s a man that no matter how many women tried to sleep with him, he made sure that they knew that felt nothing for them compared to how he felt for his wife.

This movie will effectively make a poetic myth about longing, a justified return home, fighting inner battles with your own morality and humanity, and protecting those you love above everything else, about men in Ancient Greece fighting monsters and making it all angsty.

And it really saddens me that the best representation of a Greek myth is hades town because we should have more things showing the beauty in the myths that Ancient Greece saw instead of making them gruesome war/action movies that are meant to make men hard.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH 😭😭😭😭😭😭 I CANT WAIT! I need this full season NOW!
