The only reason Fang doesn’t destroy the world right then and there is because Etro deigned to intervene (again).

Fang’s character arc isn’t resolved by the end. Saving the world doesn’t just suddenly imbue you with the ability to be forthright with your friends and open about your feelings. That shit takes time and practice. It takes a willingness to be vulnerable… and that’s hard. Especially when you’re dealing with things like trauma and guilt and self-loathing, all of which Fang is dealing with in spades.

I’ve seen assertions made that Fang’s character was introduced too late in the game—that she didn’t get enough screen time or a chance to develop, and that her character “suffered” for it.

But that was exactly the point. That was what needed to happen for both the narrative and for Fang’s character. What’s unfortunate is that Fang’s arc was promptly dropped after the first game’s end; we never got the chance to see her take some forward strides. And if your main problem with Fang’s character was that she didn’t get enough screen time, well… that could have been easily remedied in a future installment, couldn’t it?

Because after the fall of the fal’Cie and their machinations, after the doomed prophecy of Ragnarok, after Lightning and rest pulled a magnificent reversal on fate itself—

[The lights have been switched on to show Nero sat atop the refrigerator in the middle of shoveling cookies into his mouth. Vergil states “Nero, it’s time for bed.”

[Dante appears from the other side of the refrigerator with a cookie in his mouth and says in a matter of fact tone to Nero. “Told you to be quiet.” Although we cannot see his face, Vergil is turning red and steaming with a vein popping out of his forehead.]
