Obviously, English isn't my first language, right? Right!
Even though I've been reading in English for years, consuming media in English, and using it at work, my vocabulary is still limited in MANY ways. And yeah, sometimes it's gonna get REPETITIVE AS HELL. It's my first fic in English, after all. Plus... it's my first fic in about 15 years (shockiiing, right?)
This is what I want to address: I will NEVER sound like a native speaker, NE-VERR. Why? Because I've never lived in an English-speaking country, hell, I never lived anywhere besides Brasil (Yes, with a S, not a Z). My dialogue will never have that effortless, natural flow a native has because I simply don't have that lived experience. Everything I know comes from movies, art, books, and the, especially the internet.
If you think I use AI to write my story, maybe because I update relatively fast (???),just know that I actually have the time to do it. My personal life hasn't been... great (let's just say that) lately, so pretty much all my free time goes into writing, and sometimes consuming other media.
Another important point: I work in marketing, and I'm currently suffering LIKE FUCKNG HELL watching AI take over my field. It's awful. I may have a tendency to self-sabotage, but I'm not suicidal.
One more thing: do you have any idea how much work it is to plan scenes, sometimes write entire passages in your native language, and then manually translate everything? Yeah... Sometimes my brain just doesn't let me write directly in English. Sometimes I have to take the long way around just to get where I want.
When I get stuck on a translation I genuinely have NO idea how to phrase, my process is always the same: Google Translate, then Google Search, and only as a LAST RESORT, AI.
AND LET ME BE VERY CLEAR: that's ONLY for specific words or expressions when I can't find a translation that actually fits what I'm trying to say.
I'm sorry you thought it was AI, it hurts me to think people are comparing my work to a robot.
Reading a comment/question like that is honestly disappointing, especially when it's anonymous. I really admire people who have the courage to ask questions directly, and I'm sure we could've had a completely different conversation if you had.

I apologize if I went a little overboard, but this really hits a nerve in the complicated market I work in.
Furthermore, this is the third time I've seen this happen to non-English speakers in the last few months within this community, like WTF.
It's discouraging and sometimes even offensive.
Not everyone will sound like a native speaker, nor will everyone use AI to create art.
I hope this "open letter" answers your question and perhaps those of other curious individuals who may arise. I wouldn't be so direct if it were a question, but since it was an accusation...
Another thing I remembered. I'm a dramatic person, I always have been, I always will be. Brazilians are dramatic in general.
I LOVE/AM/LIVE FOR using superlatives to express all that dramatic weight. I understand it might sound like I'm an AI, but⦠try living 30 years watching soap operas/telenovelas and then see if your dramatic level doesn't make you add intensity to everything. I swear, I have to hold back from overdoing it, like in every sentence, but even holding back, it's still too much hahaha I'm not apologizing for that tho, deal with it.
