I’m very much of that opinion, yeah! For one thing Saiyans don’t operate under patriarchal religious pretense, but for the other they’re a Might Makes Right culture, so what’s between your legs does not guarantee your right to anything — especially when the entire population can go Kaiju mode to settle a dispute.

The fact that Saiyans canonically have an issue with keeping their population up while also maintaining the luxury of sorting their offspring into potential battle tiers suggests to me that Saiyan women were not assigned birthers at birth. I imagine (most) breeding pairs probably got together with more of Nappa’s mentality of hoping to create powerful offspring, rather than just carrying on a bloodline or being born for the sake of having more assets. Toriyama even noted once that bloodlines only matter to the elites, as well. Presumably for both the purposes of legacy and optimized breeding. Considering King V launched his baby boy, they seem like a quality over quantity society to me.

Saiyans, even low ranking warriors, are very prized fighters in that universe. Vegeta claims that it does not matter how many fighters are sent, one Saiyan elite is plenty to handle it — and considering he’d never retreated before and Cui tells us they have a reputation of being invincible, he’s probably being honest based on his personal experience. I genuinely imagine that whether or not a Saiyan is expected to have kids is probably more based on whether or not the potential parents believe the potential offspring is worth spending the resources and time pregnancy takes — especially if it’s going to remove someone from their job in a society with a low population — not because someone was born with a uterus.

alskdja No but fr I do hc that this was part of the recovery post-Buu once the adrenaline and gratitude that everyone was okay wore off and Bulma and Vegeta had to really think about what happened (especially because Bulma literally didn't know, and I like to imagine Vegeta told her. The crew who was there also probably helped fill in details, but Vegeta is really the only one who knew what was happening in his head and why Bobidi had such an easy time exploiting it).

But effectively, under the influence or not, Vegeta cheated on her (albeit in a non-sexual, abstract way). He chose something else (power) over her and their son, and while I think there's so much grace she can and must have offered him between his mental health and how serious relapses are and pressure and stress, the fact still remains, and she's allowed to be hurt by it. She was completely in the dark while her husband was struggling, and I personally think Vegeta also didn't realize how much anger he still had in him until the trigger was pulled, but that's still a very scary for both of them that neither of them were able to clock or communicate that when they've been through so much together as it is.

So, my personal headcanon is that there was a recovery period in which they just agreed to give her time. If she wanted affection or didn't want him anywhere near her probably varied by the day and he left it up to her, with the philosophy that he would be there unless and until she told him not to be. I really , really love to think there was just a few months of them just getting to know each other again, maybe wholly for the first time without all of Vegeta's demons in the way, and quietly recovering their trust without pressure or intention.

Thank you, I enjoy giving my ramblings a memorable button, haha. I think he would be absolutely devastated. His family is what pulled him out of his Majin state, and what kept him fighting when he was ready to die. The idea of her letting him go (dishonorable discharge style) would be an open wound for the rest of what’s left of his life, but I don’t think it’s a decision he would disagree with or fight her on. Vegeta is always very aware of the harm he’s done in the aftermath of it, so I don’t think he’d ever blame her for pushing him away.

Oh no, I think that is a holdover from the way his entire life is structured, albeit a more gentle version of it. Vegeta’s long been taught that his value is measured by his usefulness (which is something he had to unlearn in his life on Earth). I think prior to Earth it was just much more extreme — “Being where I’m not wanted is an almost guaranteed death sentence (like on Namek).” With Bulma (and I think this applies to Trunks too), the disowning isn’t at all physically violent like it was with Freeza, but it would hurt him worse than anything the FF could do to him because it’s not physically violent.

He can tank as much as he needs to but he’s (historically) pretty brittle when it comes to emotional distress, since he’s much less experienced in confronting and dealing with that. Absolute best case scenario he’d probably just go back to being extremely closed-off and quiet and guarded all the time.
