i read that article about the two Borgia series expecting it to make the case for both and it does, but I feel so validated that they preferred the smaller budget one with more "historicity" as they call it. I feel like so many historical dramas are basically "this thing happened, how can we make it a show" and use the historical setting as a vague backdrop to sell a modern drama. That's why Borgia: Faith and Fear was such a treat because there was a clear intention to portray the politics of Renaissance Italy *as* a compelling drama. It's by no means completely accurate and definitely skips a few details to be (slightly) more easier to follow along, but I think including more complex stories and characters gives more to me as a viewer to sink my teeth into. Human nature and real politics are so complex; we don't need to understand everything that's going on and name all the characters at all times. I would rather watch something that gives me something new to think about, and keep wondering where the show is going to go (that is, if you don't check these historical figures' wikipedia pages for spoilers ;)
