The Writing Interactive Course has taught me how to write an Advanced article.  I expected to receive better writing skills, learn how to add tags and categorize my articles.  I have learned that Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is a big part of categorizing your articles and enables site visitors to easily find your site.  During this course, I have learned that categorizing is more vague and tagging is more specific.  Tagging and Categorizing your article makes the search simple for the user to find the content that they are seeking.  

I have learned how to built an article using the Who, What, Where, When, and Why.  I have learned that I have to create a winning title that speaks volumes in order to engage the site visitor. When requesting an interview, I have learned the most effective response you receive is in-person or via social media through social media outlets such as Twitter. I know the last resort to requesting quotes for your article is by email.  I have learned how to cover in-depth details about an event and how an interview brings the content to life.  I have learned by interviewing the subject or a witness to an event, it gives more credibility to the article.

Amtrak Derails in Philly, 7 Casulties

In the New Media and Communications course, I learned about the foundations of New Media and new methods of communication in traditional and modern methods.  It has been the first time that I have learned about the RISE model, in order to give meaningful feedback to classmates and receive critiques in return. I learned about how to search for a ‘true’ audience. Within the process of Robert Green’s theory in “Discovering your Niche,” I have learned that you can not “develop content for everybody.” (Greene, 2012)  You have to conduct research, measure analytics, and track what site visitors are interested and what they prefer to see on your site.  For news, I learned about how to develop the elements of a story that has impact and to investigate the facts for newsworthiness. I would like to understand how to use a Nut Graph, in order to understand the significance of why a story should be published.  I know now to create an impactful story that I have to create a compelling headline and lead to draw the site visitor’s attraction.  I am understanding new techniques on how to be an effective interviewer and that an “in-person” interview is the best method and that email is the last method to use when asking questions for a story.  I have learned about “The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly” of Social Ethics  and how to be careful when writing a story I I want learn new strategies on how to exercise my amendment rights for “Freedom of the Press.”  In completing this course, I have absorbed new strategies for social media networking.  Hashtaging and titling headlines are key to generate followers on sites such as Twitter.  I also learned that embedding images and video are crucial in increasing the percentage of people that view your post as significant.  Facebook is another useful social tool where I have created a fan page and my goal is to receive as many likes as I can for my content.  In branding, I want to improve the content and visual design on the site to generate more subscribers, and I want to develop a mailing list such as mail Chimp or Aweber and send monthly newsletters on updates and new content on the site.  Through Enterprise and Promotion, I have learned how to possibly in the future develop an entrepreneur business through the content I am promoting.
