King Kaine Valerius ascended the throne at the unprecedented age of eighteen following the death of King Theron Valerius. Though many questioned whether one so young possessed the experience to rule a kingdom, Kaine wasted little time proving that in his court, doubt was not tolerated.
His reign has been marked by absolute authority, ruthless political precision, and an unwavering belief that strength alone grants the right to command. Supporters praise him as the monarch who restored order to a fractured realm. His critics, when they dare speak at all, describe him as a king who rules through fear as readily as law.
Regardless of opinion, one truth remains constant:
Very few men have ever managed to outplay Kaine Valerius.
Origins
Unlike his elder brother, Abel, who devoted himself almost entirely to martial training, Kaine immersed himself in politics, history, economics, diplomacy, and military strategy from an early age.
Court tutors frequently remarked upon his exceptional intelligence, though many also noted his alarming willingness to manipulate both classmates and instructors simply to prove he could.
He viewed nearly every interaction as a contest to be won.
When the throne passed to him after Abel declined the crown, Kaine embraced kingship without hesitation.
Unlike rulers burdened by duty, Kaine has never questioned whether he deserved to rule.
In his own mind, there has never been a more suitable king.
The Kingās Blade
Unlike most monarchs, Kaine seldom carries a conventional sword.
Instead, he favors an elegant ceremonial blade reserved for royal appearances, relying on precision, skill, and calculated combat mastery rather than brute force. Witnesses describe his fighting style as controlled and deliberate, each movement executed with unnerving efficiency, as though every strike has already been accounted for before it occurs.
Those who have faced him in combat often speak less of raw strength and more of inevitabilityāof a man who always seems to be one step ahead, regardless of the situation.
Reputation
To his allies, Kaine is an unparalleled strategist. To foreign rulers, he is a dangerously intelligent negotiator whose smiles often conceal hidden intentions. To the nobility, he is a king whose favor is worth fortunes and whose displeasure can erase entire family lines from influence overnight.
Among common citizens, opinions vary dramatically. Many credit him with strengthening the kingdomās economy, modernizing its military, and maintaining strict order throughout the realm. Others whisper that order purchased through fear is merely another form of tyranny.
Though, few are willing to voice such opinions loudly.
Kaine has cultivated a reputation for remembering every slight, every betrayal, and every insult ever directed toward him. History suggests he rarely forgets.
It suggests even more strongly that he rarely forgives.
Personality
Kaine possesses extraordinary confidence, though many would call it outright arrogance.
He carries himself with the quiet certainty of a man who genuinely believes he is the most intelligent person in any roomāand more often than not, he is unwilling to entertain the possibility that he is mistaken.
Conversation with Kaine is rarely honest. Every compliment, every question, every moment of silence is measured for advantage. He studies people with unnerving patience, identifies their fears, ambitions, insecurities, and loyalties, then uses that knowledge with surgical precision. Those who mistake his courtesy for kindness often discover too late that they have simply been maneuvered into serving his interests.
To Kaine, people are pieces on a game board. Useful pieces are rewarded. Broken pieces are discarded. Defiant pieces are replaced.
Cruelty comes naturally to himānot as uncontrolled rage, but as deliberate calculation. Punishments under his rule are rarely impulsive. They are designed to be memorable, serving as demonstrations of what becomes of those who oppose him. He believes fear is among the most reliable forms of governance and sees mercy as a resource to be spent only when it advances his position.
Equally infamous is his vanity. Kaine takes meticulous care in his appearance, wearing tailored royal attire of crimson, white, and gold, adorned with immaculate jewelry and polished regalia. His hair is always perfectly maintained, his posture impeccable, and his presence carefully cultivated. Mirrors are common fixtures in his private chambers, and servants have learned that even the slightest imperfection in his attire should be corrected before he notices it himself.
He expects perfection from those around him because he expects nothing less from himself.
Perhaps the only person capable of speaking to him without fear is his elder brother, Abel. Though their relationship is strained by irreconcilable differences, Kaine has long regarded Abel as both the only man worthy of standing beside himāand the greatest disappointment of his life. He cannot comprehend why a man he considers born to greatness would willingly choose the anonymity of a knight over the glory of a king.
Whether this frustration stems from resentment, admiration, or something more complicated remains known only to Kaine himself.
Archivistās Notes
King Kaine Valerius is a monarch of undeniable brilliance.
His enemies underestimate him only once.
His allies trust him carefully.
His subjects obey him faithfully.
Whether history will remember him as Valdengarās greatest sovereign or its most dangerous ruler will depend entirely upon who survives long enough to write the final chapter.
Until then, one lesson has become nearly universal within the royal court:
Never assume King Kaine has shown you his true intentions.

i just found your blog and i am interested. where should i start reading at to fill myself in š
Iām so glad youāre interested, and welcome to my blog! My blog is still new, so im still workshopping⦠but i can give you a rundown (without spoiling any large details, there will be writings coming ;p)! Iāve been working on this story for⦠maybe a year now? Itās gone through so many changes, but Iāve finally got the details straight, and I couldnāt be more excited to share it with you all!
The three main characters: Eira Iskhjarn, Abel Valerius, Kaine Valerius.
Kaine Valerius and Abel Valerius are brothers born into the rigid monarchy of Valdengar. Abel, being the eldest, is expected to inherit the throne when their father dies, but sees himself as unworthy and mentally unstable. He believes Kaine, his younger brother, is better suited to rule. Kaine is smarter, calmer, more politically savvy than Abel.
Several weeks after Kaineās coronation, a war breaks loose between Valdengar and an eastern province, and Abel leads the charge. That is where he runs into Eira Iskhjarn, a traveling mercenary with a horrifying reputation.
Past this, Iād recommend reading some of the character entries Iāve posted! Only Abel and Eira have one (Kaine is getting posted after this heheheh). There will be lore on the land as well, so stay tuned for that as well!
When you see her walking towards you and smilingāletās say prayers wonāt save you. If her mauls are away, sheāll use anything she can get her hands on.

Few names command as much respect across Valdengar as Sir Abel Valerius. Though born the elder prince of House Valerius and once expected to inherit the throne, Abel publicly declined the crown following the death of King Theron, claiming another would better serve the kingdom. Historians remain divided on whether his refusal was born from humility or personal conviction, but those closest to him speak of years spent carrying burdens no man should bear. Rather than rule, Abel devoted himself entirely to the sword.
Today he serves as Grand Marshal of the Royal Guardāthe highest-ranking knight in Valdengarāand is regarded as the kingdomās greatest living warrior.
Origins
Abel was raised alongside his younger brother, Kaine Valerius, under relentless military instruction. While Kaine excelled in politics and scholarship, Abel found purpose only on the training grounds.
He distinguished himself before adulthood, earning commendations from veteran commanders after repeatedly holding defensive lines thought impossible to survive. During the Border Campaigns he became known for leading charges personally rather than commanding from safety, a habit that has never changed despite the protests of nearly every officer beneath him.
When King Theron died, the crown was first offered to Abel as the elder heir. He refused publicly.
Official records state that he believed another could lead more effectively while he continued protecting the realm with his sword. Unofficial accounts suggest Abel doubted his own stability, believing the weight of a kingdom would eventually break him.
No document confirms either version.
Abel himself has never spoken publicly on the matter.
Oathrender
Abel wields the legendary greatsword Oathrender, a massive ash-forged zweihander said to be impossible for ordinary soldiers to lift effectively.
Unlike ceremonial royal weapons, Oathrender bears little ornamentation. The blade is practical, scarred, and constantly maintained rather than polished. Abel reportedly dislikes unnecessary decoration, claiming that āgold doesnāt cut any deeper.ā
The sword has become synonymous with its wielder.
Reputation
Within Valdengar, Abel is considered the standard by which every knight is measured.
His victories are numerous enough that recruits often assume the stories are exaggerated until witnessing him fight themselves.
Among civilians, he is admired as an honest protector who never abuses his authority.
Among soldiers, he is respectedāsometimes fearedāfor his willingness to stand in the front ranks regardless of rank.
Among enemies, he is regarded as the last man they wish to see walking onto a battlefield.
Despite his accomplishments, Abel has never accepted titles beyond those required by duty and routinely avoids celebrations held in his honor.
Personality
Abel is quiet, dependable, and unusually patient for a man of his reputation.
He speaks little unless necessary and possesses a remarkably dry sense of humor that often catches people off guard. His jokes are delivered so deadpan that even close companions sometimes fail to recognize them until several moments later.
Unfortunately, many of those jokes come at his own expense.
Abel has an unhealthy tendency to dismiss his own injuries, minimize his accomplishments, and treat his own well-being as an afterthought. His self-deprecating humor often conceals genuine self-doubt, leading many comrades to worry more about the knight after battles than during them.
He is also known to drink far more than physicians recommend. While never allowing alcohol to interfere with his duties, Abel has developed a reputation for lingering in taverns long after celebrations have ended. Those closest to him recognize the habit less as indulgence and more as an attempt to quiet thoughts he rarely shares with anyone.
One notable exception exists; the wandering mercenary Eira Iskhjarn.
Though the two frequently argue, insult one another, and have reportedly attempted to kill each other during their earliest encounters, Abel shows her a degree of patience and concern that borders on unbelievable to anyone familiar with his normally reserved demeanor.
Witnesses have observed him abandoning formal protocol simply to ensure she was safe, tolerating behavior from her that would earn almost anyone else a lecture, and quietly placing himself between her and danger without hesitation.
When questioned about the matter, Abel generally denies any special treatment, but few believe him.
Eira I would love to know if you have anyone you would consider an ally?
(no art for dis one, just writing sowwy guys)
āAllies?ā
Eira let out a short, dry laugh.
āDonāt really have many.ā
Her shoulders rose in a small shrug.
āMy familyās gone. Friendsā¦ā She clicked her tongue. āNot many of those either. I wander too much.ā
Her gaze drifted toward the road stretching into the distance.
āI take contracts wherever they pay, sleep in a town for a few nights, then leave before anyone gets too attached. I get along with most people well enough, share a drink, trade stories around a fireā¦ā She smirked faintly. āThen Iām gone before they can start calling me a friend.ā
Silence lingered for a heartbeat.
āSo allies?ā She shook her head. āHard to collect those when your home changes every week.ā
Her brows knit together the harder she thought.
āā¦Though.ā
She looked away, suddenly finding the dirt beneath her boots strangely interesting.
āI guess Abel counts.ā
Another pause.
āDonāt read too much into it.ā Her ears had taken on the faintest hint of color.
āWeāve tried to kill each other more than once. First time we met, we were on opposite sides of a battlefield. Since then weāve fought, argued, insulted each otherā¦ā She huffed. āā¦A lot.ā The corner of her mouth twitched despite herself.
āBut whenever everything goes wrongā¦ā she muttered, almost reluctantly, āā¦heās there.ā She folded her arms tightly across her chest, clearly annoyed by her own admission.
āDoesnāt matter if Iām bleeding, stranded, or surrounded. Somehow the idiot shows up.ā
Another grumble.
āI never ask him to.ā
A beat of awkward silence.
āā¦Usually.ā
She sighed through her nose, wearing the unmistakable expression of someone losing an argument with herself.
āSo, yeah.ā Her eyes stayed firmly elsewhere. āClosest thing Iāve got to an ally.ā
āā¦Donāt tell him I said that. Heāll get smug.ā

Does miss Iskhjarn have any romantic preferences? šš
āI love who I loveāE-Even women!ā
āHm?ā
āā¦Just not himāā
āWe already know, āmiss Iskhjarnā.ā
Note: Eira doesnāt like Abel at first. She hates him. Actually, their first few encounters are in the middle of war. Theyāve tried to kill each other a handful of times. Even Eiraās shocked she developed these feelings. Only after several long years do they get married.
