‘ Don’t you have friends to be bothering? Though from our b r i e f conversation I think believing you even have friends is a bit of a stretch. ’

     “that’s a LONG name for a dog… i’m not sure you could be found dead in a worse place than this place, maybe MIAMI. do you have people you could trust out there? do you even have people you can trust in here? that’s the key to getting back out to your pastry dog and preppy friends.”

      ‘‘ makes two of us. been here for a little longer than a year. where are you from? originally, i mean. just small talk to keep the good topics for later. or maybe we . . don’t have to talk at all. so, how about just walking & being spontaneous. with this town’s history, we’ll find something. ‘‘

     mo snorted. so valerie was very blatantly materialistic – somehow, he’d grown kind of FOND of it. kind of. some of the shit she said still caught him off guard, left him slack-jawed at the sheer dumbness of his new sister. he took another slice of orange into his mouth, again not waiting to finish swallowing before talking. nasty habit. “ is it a bad time to say i don’t know what – or WHO – barney is either ? ”

“ …If we HAVE a toaster that doesn’t have anything wrong with it, WHY would we buy a new one? ”

     ❝     it’s just a cookie in a cup — there’s not much LEARNING to do with the recipe . suppose you’ll just have to owe me one for it . unless you got some other COOKERY knowledge you can impart upon me .     ❞

      “not lying. it does defeat the purpose, but they can’t really FORCE us to stay here. isn’t it our choice just to stay here and be protected? get out, live your normal life, valerie is  d e a d  over here, but whoever you were before is back in full swing, with people probably trying at every opportunity to kill you. so… YOU WANT OUT? two months enough for you?”

‘’ right! you know what, if you’re just going to insult the way i look i’ll LEAVE. ‘’

“it’s TWO in the morning” a cheeky smile adorned his face, hazel orbs looking at the other as he finally let go of the handful of rocks he had. “this one’s WORTH IT, look at how beautiful the sky looks tonight” the male had a newfound interest on the town at night, while back in New York all he had to stare at was the artificial lights of skyscrapers on a dark sky, here he could LOOK at the bright, shining stars without an issue. scott was glad that he had found someone who enjoyed staring at the night sky, but when he learned that the next door female could talk just about anything with him, it was perfect. He could see himself in this position again, throwing rocks to wake her up in the middle of the night just to have someone to talk with.

“this is so much BETTER than beauty sleep” he shrugged, sitting down on the lawn before patting the spot next to him “besides, you don’t need it. you’re already  b e a u t i f u l”

valerie poked her head further out the window to catch a glance at the sky, still amazed at just how many stars were visible. back home the skies were clouded with smog and bright leds that inhibited her from really seeing the night sky, so regardless of her protests for extra hours of sleep, there was nothing else she’d rather be doing than soaking in the sight. 

“ oh shut up, i’m already coming. ” the brunette said with a grin as she went back inside her room, a loud OUCH! following after the bang of her hitting her head against the window. she moved quickly throughout the residence in hopes of not waking anyone, pink robe tied tightly around svelte frame and fluffy slippers shuffling across the lawn to the spot he saved for her. 

‘’ what the hell is wrong with what how i dress? —- touche, i sometimes forget about that but drew is just such a babe. but truthfully i’m more of a liv tyler kind of lady myself, she is truly one of the most beautiful women i’ve ever seen in my life. ‘’

‘ i didn’t live under a rock, val! —– — drew barrymore is so much hotter, are you blind? are you comparing me to some of those CLICHE old men who hang those paintings? because i took a lot of offense to that, those paintings are literally the most embarrassing things i’ve ever seen. ‘’

     “ i really just … don’t want to know how you know that. ” dumbfounded, mo followed his       ‘ sister ’ towards the dining room, shaking his head at the fact that of ALL PEOPLE, this was who he was stuck with for… potentially the rest of his life. “ you peeled oranges ? i’m so proud of you val. that’s a feat. you should get an award or something. ” he plopped down across from her, taking a handful of oranges from the bowl between them. “ so what’s the scoop ? ” he started, mouth full of citrus fruit. “ what’ve you found out about this shitty little town ? ”

    “ with you? sure! is this the part where you show me your secret hiding spot? ”

     “i mean, TECHNICALLY we can leave anytime we want. if shit gets too rough for you, princess, the door is right over there.”

scott sighs, his annoyance shows as he throws another rock at the frame of the window. his NEIGHBOUR was probably asleep, he wondered if the female was even up at that time of the night. but his desire to share the sight of the beautiful night sky was TOO EGREGIOUS to keep quiet about “VAL” he whisper-shouted, another rock hit the frame loudly. scott WONDERED how long it’ll take for him to miss and HIT the window, maybe THAT would get the other’s attention “jesus christ, come out. i’m going to get arrested if i break your window”

valerie had been in & out of sleep for the last hour, never growing accustomed to her new stiff mattress, nor the lack of security she felt. regardless of the distance put between her and her past, the idea of being found still brought nightmares. the girl originally assumed the sound of stones hitting her window frame was a part of her half asleep dysphoria, though scott’s voice brought her into a fully awake state. the brunette slid the window open and poked her head out, disheveled locks and cheeks reddened from sleep gave her a sense of self consciousness upon realizing who the voice belonged to.
