• Zuko verbally states “I went through a redemption arc.”

• Iroh tells Zuko that he needs to go teach the avatar rather than Zuko figuring it out himself.

• Katara verbally states “I mastered bloodbending” after shown doing it for less than 5 seconds.

• Sun Warriors get skipped; Aang learns firebending offscreen or in a montage.

• Aang continues to be a jerk to everyone around him, still ends up with Katara in the end.

• “I love Zuko more than I fear you” stated by Mai in a completely unrelated scene, and the relationship buildup between them to this point will be minimal or nonexistent.

• Aang kills Ozai.

• Katara not killing Yon Rha is flipped from being a story about not perpetuating grief and violence into a pro-fascist stance that makes the Fire Nation regime seem “not that bad” for “depth.”

• Taking from the prior point, Sokka has no input or opinion on the death of his mother.

• Either the Day of Black Sun or Boiling Rock are completely skipped.

• All other side characters completely ignored by the show (Hakoda, Bato, etc.) will show up in the coronation scene and nowhere else.

• Suki will be entirely absent from the final battle until needed for a deus ex machina.

• If Aang doesn’t kill Ozai, Zuko/Katara will kill Azula. Because dark.

• All of the engineering and leadership prowess Sokka shows in Book 3 will either be written out or given to other characters.

• Zuko’s mother will show up at his coronation.

• At least 5 minutes of footage of Ozai burning people alive when the comet hits. Because dark.

• No beach.

• Azula’s breakdown gets bastardized in a way that becomes insulting to people with mental illness.

• Toph will do something again that no blind person could conceivably do.

• Instead of infiltrating a school and teaching the kids how to have fun, Team Avatar will just blow up a school.

• The ember island players will either be brought up unironically without any self-awareness, relegated to a background reference, or not even acknowledged. Jury’s out.

• The show will largely end with the theme of killing being necessary and that whoever inflicts the most violence wins rather than the messaging of the original show.

Before you get started on creating, let’s go over some general information (full FAQ list can be found on our Carrd website)!

What fanworks we will and won’t accept:

We WILL NOT accept AI content in any capacity. This event is for human-made fanworks only.

We WILL NOT accept creations that contain purposefully offensive/hateful content.

We WILL accept edits, moodboards, playlists, headcanons, meta posts, ANYTHING as long as it is about Zukaang and created for Zukaang Week! You don’t have to be an artist or writer to participate!

We WILL accept fanworks that are not related to the theme/prompts, so long as those fanworks are related to Zukaang and are specifically created for Zukaang Week! The prompts are meant to promote creativity, not restrict it, so you are not limited to only posting on Free Day - feel free to create whatever you would like!

We WILL accept NSFW/Mature submissions, provided that they are tagged appropriately and both characters are clearly depicted/stated to be 18+. Please make sure to add a SFW (safe for work) preview when posting NSFW/mature content on Tumblr. For art, you may include a link to the full NSFW work on a different site (Bluesky or Twitter, for example) in the text of your preview post if you would like, as long as there is a warning that the content is for 18+ only.

What to know about posting fanworks:

The best way to ensure that we can find and reblog your fanworks are by using the tags “zukaang week 2026” and “zukaang week” when posting. We also recommend tagging us in the post directly with @zukaangweek. If we for some reason miss your post, you can mention us with @zukaangweek in the comments, or send us an ask or DM containing the link to the post and we will reblog it.

Since Zukaang Week is intended to inspire the creation of new Zukaang fanworks, previously posted works not specifically created for Zukaang Week will NOT be reblogged or accepted into the AO3 Collection, even if they fit one of the prompts. However, we DO welcome submissions of ongoing fics that post a new chapter during Zukaang Week, as long as they follow the guidelines.

If you run out of time to complete a prompt, don’t panic! We will be happy to reblog any late Zukaang Week submissions ALL the way up until next year’s Zukaang Week! Just make sure to tag your post accordingly and/or mention us with @zukaangweek.

For AO3 writers who will be participating in Zukaang Week, don’t forget to add your fic to the Zukaang Week 2026 AO3 collection - it will open up once Zukaang Week begins!

If you would like to post your Zukaang Week creations elsewhere, we are also holding Zukaang Week over on Twitter on the same dates listed above! If you want to crosspost to Twitter, just make sure to use the hashtags “zukaangweek2026” and “zukaangweek” and/or tag us with @/zukaang_week. 1. Yin yang/parallels : Blue Spirit episode modified to include Aang ruminating on how alone he feels while Katara and Sokka are sick, thinking back on how badly he misses the Air Nomads. Episode plays out normally until the Zukaang conversation, where instead of running away, Aang stays and asks Zuko why he's so bent on capturing him. Zuko spits that its his only way home. Aang freezes for a second and Zuko says he doesn't expect him to understand, but Aang shakes his head. "I think I do understand. I'd probably give up the world to go home." Zuko doesn't know how to respond, and Aang runs away in a panic when he realises what he said. Cue thought montage of Aang wondering if admitting what he did makes him a bad person, or if it means Zuko isn't.

2. Red string of fate/opposites attract : After the battle at the north pole, Aang passes the bridge that Zuko and Zhao fought on, and sees a dotted line of blood leading away. Suspicious, he follows it to a sewer entrance, where the blood gets washed away in the water. He decides to enter the sewer and finds Zuko, who got his leg sliced by angry ocean when he offered to help Zhao escape it. They're both hostile to each other and Zuko tries to firebend at Aang, but its nighttime he's so tired that the flames sputter out. Aang is conflicted after the whole kidnapping fiasco but his compassion wins out, and he offers to use what little healing ability he learned from Katara to heal Zuko's leg. It's awkward, its uncomfortably intimate, and neither of them know how to feel, but Zuko's manners make him bite out a thank you and Aang lights up like a candle. Even though Zuko is now perfectly capable of walking, Aang still insists on leading him back to where Iroh is waiting. Iroh is visibly confused when Zuko doesn't immediately backstab Aang, but Zuko is so shellshocked by the random kindness he'd just been offered that he accepts Aang's help in silence. Iroh is even more confused when the Avatar wishes them good winds to get to the Earth Kingdom, but vaguely recognises the phrase as an Air Nomad tradition, and responds in kind, leaving Aang surprised and happy. When Aang gets back to his friends, tells them everything, and though both Sokka and Katara are massively sceptical, they keep their misgivings largely to themselves in favour of appreciating how hopeful Aang seems, since they haven't seen him like that in weeks.

So in the Natla there's this episode where aang realises he has a crush on zuko and spends the entire episode flirting with him, hugging him, but zuko is like "bro we cant bc youre my enemy and all ig but youre kinda cute tho". And there's this moment where they get attacked by someone and zuko gets hit. Aang picks him up and starts running and says "now i have a beauty (?????) in my arms". In the dream i start freaking out bc "SEE?? ZUKAANG IS REAL1!11!!!!!11 I CANT WAIT TO TELL MY FOLLOWERS" and i wake up because i accidentally hit my snake bites while i was sleeping and they still hurt like hell.
