explaining brock boeser to people is like so there’s this guy you could easily believe is secretly an Entitled Asshole because he has all the ingredients to be one (pro athlete getting paid millions + pretty face + charming public persona) but instead everything about him is the antithesis of that

he’s loyal and he’s been teased for being ‘sensitive’ and he’s widely known for his kindness towards everyone even when no one is watching and he listens to folksy indie music and he purposefully adopts dogs from shelters to get them off the street and give them a home and he was the only player on his college team who would consistently hang out with non-athletes because he just liked chilling with everybody and he would never badmouth or even prank a teammate and he’s been incredibly open about his multiple health scares and the deaths of several loved ones he’s already experienced and he repeatedly expresses his gratitude for the fans. over and over you see the evidence that he’s one of the most genuine and least pretentious hockey players you’ll ever find

what if we were childhood friends who grew up twenty minutes away from each other and karted together every wednesday and weekend but had some big catastrophic dramatic falling out that we kept between us after all these years despite making it to the big leagues and constant speculation and journalists asking ad nauseum. and then we drove on the same mediocre f1 team for two years but cap it off with a miraculous double podium in one of our last races as teammates. and then you tell the media how you could make a full documentary about our relationship and it’s a very special relationship and that maybe in ten, twenty years we may be able to talk things through. and then we go to a psg game together
