An ode to this absolute unit of a queen, and a modest take on how she might've looked like. Aroua Al-Himyari is the first and only consort of the iconic Abu Jaafar Al Mansur, she was a fully fledged feminist, and a millennia ahead of her time. We can thank her for the Baghdad House of Wisdom (built by her grandson) since the immense book collection later on used for the House of Wisdom started during her reign with Al Mansur, the couple had in their possession the biggest collection of knowledge of the Middle Ages. She stood for herself, raised her voice against polygamy with her Kairouanese marriage contract, and stood for women of all backgrounds in the abbasid empire, she personally protected sex workers and didn’t think any less of them, even though she didn’t let her husband take any concubine. And whenever her husband wanted to get away from his contract with her aka marry a second woman, she bribed religious figures and imams to oppose Al Mansur. This North African woman, despite living in one of the worst time periods for women, actually left a pretty significant imprint in Tunisian history, since Tunisia remains the only and first Arab/muslim country to abolish polygamy 13 centuries ago.

Alix Kubdel is so fun to draw, especially when I get to draw her is gorgeous Amazigh clothes. so this is our local bunny miraculous holder, time travelling superhero, North African queen Alix in a north western Tunisian clothings from the Kef region 

I tried a thing with professor venoumous’s hair, and I am not sorry.

Hamilton the musical is the only emotional support I have left during my long study sessions so, I drew a 19 years old ambitious Alexander Hamilton making his way into King’s college in order to graduate in two and join the revolution ✨

Alix Kubdel is a North African queen, so I’ll be drawing my girl in traditional clothes from our part of the planet. So, some explanations, she is wearing a Tarayoun, a traditional two piece dress situation called Fouta (the skirt part) and Blouza (the top part), this is my favorite traditional costume so far (because it’s specifically from my home city Kairouan) and I find it absolutely stunning. the dress is usually made with black velvety fabric, and with golden embroideries (usually from real gold threads). Her necklace is called Tlila, which is part of the many many traditional jewelries we have, and you guessed it, this one is my personal favorite. ps: the links I put are just for the images, just so you guys can see what I’m talking about :)

I can’t accept the fact that the mlb fandom has been sleeping on the fact that Alix is berber ⵣ, I MEAN, ALL THE OUTFITS WE COULD BE DRAWING ON HER PLEASE!! Anyways, here is Alix in a berber coat called Kashabeya . (the coat is inspired by my very own kashabeya). NORTH AFRICA REPRESENT 🙌🏼 ⵣ 🙌🏼

This is a wip I need to finish
