Having goats provides nourishment for the farm and their caretakers. Fiona, our milking goat, provides us with 1-2 quarts of milk per day. We are able to feed to goats weeds from around the farm and goat manure is then collected and integrated into compost piles. The finished compost increases fertility of our soil and enables us to grow healthier food for our community!

Our Spring Fellows just arrived and they are already on the farm learning and working hard!Β
The Winter Work Traders built a chicken tractor so the chickens could eat vegetation and residual crops around the farm. Β They also had a little fun at the expense of our Farm Manager.
Our favorite insects are constantly entering and exiting the farm beehive. Bees are essential for an urban farm. Without them and other insects it would be impossible to pollinate many of our crops. And if we're lucky they produce enough honey for the Fellows and farm staff to eat!
Some offices are visited by the postal service. Our office is visited by chickens.

Farm Manager Rae Graber and the Winter Work Traders inspect a bundle of tree collards in the greenhouse, soaking in a water-based solution. Once they start to develop new roots they will be ready to be planted all over the farm!
We're gearing up for the Spring, seeding in the greenhouse and preparing our growing spaces. This pallet bed is amended with compost and ready for planting!Β
Save our nitrogen! Winter Work Traders Hannah and Anna cut down fava beans before the plants grow their beans. This allows the nitrogen created by these legumes to stay in the soil!
January is a quieter time on the farm, but many plants are flourishing indoors. We are still harvesting chiles from the wicking beds in our aquaponics greenhouse!

The Winter Work Traders stay warm with goat milk hot chocolate!
We are exploring innovative growing technologies here at Urban Adamah. Our solar powered aquaponics system grows lots of produce year round! Fellows learn about and help maintain the aquaponics system during their time on the farm.
During the winter season some Fellows keep living at Beit Adamah and run the farm. Fall 2013 Fellow Eliya prepares the harvest for our weekly farm stand.
Even farmers need to let loose once in a while.Β
