God.

I fucking hate social media. I have become such an utterly jaded asshole in the past year and a half.

I’m a computer science graduate, I am supposed to love technology.

I would defend technology vehemently for years.

Now, everything feels so much more sinister.

I feel like I’m in a giant science experiment. 

The way we are fed news particularly disgusts me. News has become nothing but clickbait bullshit that tells you the opinion you are supposed to have in the headline.

Facebook trending disgusts me because of the selective things that trend, same with twitter.

I don’t know what’s wrong with me, to be frank. I’ve been an optimist my entire life and I feel it all crumbling away.

And I’ll fucking admit how I feel right here: Our sensationalized bullshit media has done far more damage to our country than Trump ever will.

I hate that people think that the only way a person can come to an opinion is simply through ignorance of an issue. 

I HATE groupthink. I’m fucking sick of it. We can’t even be individuals anymore. We’re just reduced to the group we are in: what’s most obvious about us.

I wanna live in a world where we can just have spirited debates and still love and learn each other even if we disagree. 

We have utterly dehumanized our neighbors.

I’m just sad, really. 

Perhaps I care too much what other people think, but I feel silenced.

Not because my views are problematic (which I don’t think they are), but because they are nuanced.

Nuance isn’t wanted anymore though. What we want is to hate, hate, hate. Critical thinking gets in the way of that.

Whenever we entered the “if you believe in X, unfollow me” era of public discourse is when everything went to utter shit.

Just...I don’t know. I wish we could realize that every person grows up and has many factors shape their world view. 

I don’t mean to shit on technology, but things really started getting bad when 50+% of the population has smart phones.

It’s all noise and quite frankly is probably not good for our brains.
