I just saw your post about the fandoms lack of racial awareness and I’m so happy someone has called it out. As a mixed race person who has experienced a good amount of racism in my life, this fandom has not been any better with how they treat the characters who happen to be people of colour, especially alastor.
They were basically denying he was black till they had to accept it, using “he’s not black, he’s creole/french” or “he’s mixed so he can look white” and all these stupid and racist excuse to erase the little representation mixed race people have in shows, especially adult shows.
And them now using alastor as a punching bag for a white man to look “progressive’ and whatever is super annoying, especially to a point where he’s just plot tool for Vincent and has no character/lore outside of it is annoying.
Yes, I love when people aren’t scared to show how bad racism was back then without sugar coating it, but if the only times he faces the racism, it has to involve Vincent, a white character, and how he feels but never explain how it effects alastor and how feels just feels annoying and unrelatable.
I also DESPISE when they make alastor a whole walking, living racist stereotype, specifically when it’s making alastor, a black character emotionless, stoic and nonchalant whilst Vincent, a white character has all the freedom in the world to be silly, expressive, and fun falls into the stereotype that black people are “other” and “less human” for me, honestly. I get he’s like that in the show but I personally believe he made that whole “mysterious” persona after falling into hell to survive/fit in down there, and when he was human, obviously, he acted less like his demon self if you understand what I mean.
but that’s it for my ramble, sorry if I’ve made mistakes or it looks messy, I just wanted to get my anger out with this shitty ass fandom😭🙏
(Again, thank you for speaking out about this)
(For context, I posted about this topic on Twitter.)
Couldn’t have said it better myself.
