i returned from the dead and the first thing i gotta say is
why do people always think the underground lives off the scraps it gets from the dump alone?
i mean, monster food is explicitly said to be different from human food, so they probably have to make that
and we see monsters that can just magically produce edible food, so that can explain how they survive without any visible farming areas
and mettaton produces his own stuff all the time, so obviously they have a means of mass-production
plus, they have a whole huge city we've barely seen, and there's loads of technology that even alphys probably couldn't save if it got wet enough
the idea that monsters are too stupid to make their own imitations of human stuff is one of those wild misinterpretations on a "Papyrus Hates Puns" level that i just dont get
i always figured it was just easier to take stuff from the dump for free because, well, that's the benefit of dumps anywhere. i've got parts in my car that i got for like 20 bucks from a dump that woulda cost hundreds anywhere else. where the idea they ONLY live off human trash came from is kinda beyond me
this is 100% unrelated to anything but if you ever wanna know here’s my personal age headcanons for some peeps:
papyrus - 22-23 (taking the ‘95′ in his online handle for his birth year). undyne - 26-27 (same as paps)
alphys - 27-30 (see her and sans being pretty close in age, esp. since a physics and engineering degree take about the same amount of time to complete. bratty and catty comment on her being ‘like a big sister’ to them before she became the royal scientist, and they’re aged at around 19 if they’re close to burgerpants’ peer group, so if we assume alphys became the royal scientist sometime after the first human fell, that’d pit her at being early 20′s when that happened, with bratty and catty in their early teens when alphys was in that ‘big sis’ role. just makes more sense for them to idolize someone fresh in her 20′s as a ‘big sis’ than someone in her mid-30s).
sans - 27-28 (partially because of alphys, partially because i see him as giving off an ‘old soul’ vibe but actually being only a few years older than paps, who exudes the youthful energy of a puppy in a ballpit. it’s a funny dichotomy that way).
frisk - 10-12; old enough to be in that ‘wildly inappropriate preteen’ stage, but not quite a teen. (them being a toddler is cute but doesn’t make sense for how they act imo).
monster kid - 9-10; seem a little more naive than frisk. it’d be interesting commentary on how innocent some monsters can be to have them be the same age, tho.

fun fact: when toby fox designed alphys’ coat, he accidentally designed it so it buttons to the right, making it a man’s coat. menswear buttons to the right, and womenswear buttons to the left. whether this was considered when alphys was designed as a boy, and he just forgot to change it, or toby fox just doesn’t know shit about fashion, is anyones - he 100% just doesn’t know shit about fashion who are we kidding.
if it’s on a woman it’s a woman’s coat either way but there’s a neat little tidbit for you
then again, he just inverts her sprites to face different directions, so in her battle with mettaton, it’s correct, but at the end, it’s wrong.
