I am not one to celebrate the 4th of July, for personal reasons, although watching Hamilton on Disney+ made me appreciative. Hamilton shows how the problems we had back then are still relevant now. The United States was not built perfectly, in fact it still isnât perfect, and thatâs okay. We can change it, so donât lose hope!

âHistory has its eyes on youâ: Remeber to not lose hope! Think about what will happen when we achieve equality in this nation. The impact we have on history will be astounding, so donât forget that. Use this knowledge to keep at it and be smart about our actions.
âImmigrants: We get the job doneâ: The U.S. was built by immigrants! The ideas that are included in many of our historical documents were written by and taken from FOREIGNERS.
âWeâll never be free until we end slavery!â: Also gone unnoticed, was the fact that many founding fathers knew slavery was wrong. The constitution was actually written to include everybody, yes even slaves, in mind. The fault here was that as a new nation many feared making slavery illegal, as this would show that the federal government was abusing power. Although, I admit they did do wrong for allowing it to go for so long. Many founding fathers called for a gradual end to slavery, because the states were the only ones that could choose that for themselves. If you are interested in finding out more I suggest looking into a the meaning of a Constitutionally Limited Governement and federalism in terms to the U.S.
âItâs full of contradictions. So is independenceâ: This quote relates to my opening argument; realizing that this country isnât ideal. It is a work in progress and this generation can take part in it. Image how history will look back at us for our accomplishments!
âBest of wives and best of womenâ: People often forget how involved women have been in the U.S since the beginning. Hamilton himself credits much of his success thanks to his incredibly smart wife. Lin Manuel Miranda highlights this in his musical and it shows that women can also mold history.
