Your main concern in an argument, if you truly care about the issues at hand, should not be an offensive against a fabricated other or an attempt to trap them in a perverted form of debate where instead of arguing points and ideas, you are more concerned with semantics and setting up straw men to hide yourself than you are in gaining nothing at all. The best method of discourse, especially against people you disagree with, is an attempt to understand their position. Otherwise, you are only fighting yourself and your preconceived notions.

I walked home drunk in the dull wash of yellow lights overhead on snow. I felt inspired for the first time in a long time and opened the camera on my phone and talked to it and tried to string words together in flowing syntax like I thought I used to and weaved words iinto the beat of my footsteps, talking to kill the silence of fresh snow and those people back there. Empowered momentarily, I relished it and slept awaiting my morning inspiration, where everything would be back on track at last with the rising of a new sun over the dusted treetops. I woke and felt shame and deleted my words without listening to them.

The heat just kicked on above me, expanding over the rows of literature and small gatherings of people sipping hot drinks and talking excitedly. I instantly think of a womannwho, just 20 minutes ago, had complained about the chill in the store. She was grossly overweight and wrapped herself in a blanket, checkered green and black. The sound of the heat kicking on is a deep rumbling, like something unseen and approaching. I think of how it would be to be destroyed where I sit, in violent and fiery light as if extended from the calloused hand of God himself, washing clean creation like a professor's chalky white palm over a blackboard of foul words.
