Looking at the county of San Diego Facebook page, I like how they posted a lot of interesting things. Not only is it interesting but also relevant. The post has a variety of things people can read about and that is something that they should definitely continue doing. One thing that I recommend this Facebook page should do in order improve is doing a lot of outreach. This is the county of San Diego Facebook page and it isn’t getting many views and likes. I think that is something that they should work on improving. Some other things that I recommend is using hashtags and trying to figure out other ways to get more exposed. I also recommend them to promote their page and if they are already, to promote it even more. One final thing I recommend that they should do is interact with other people and this can help promote their page as well because the people they are interacting with can share their post.

Looking at the city of San Francisco Facebook page, one main difference I notice on this page then the county of San Diego page is that it uses hashtags. This shows that they are more in tune with what’s going on currently because hashtags are something that is very popular today. This is something that they should continue doing and something that the county of San Diego page needs to incorporate into their posts. Some things that I recommend that this page needs to work on is that they should post more regularly and have more interaction with other Facebook pages. They should figure out different ways to have more people read and share their posts. They should also have a lot more variety of posts in order to have different people with different interests wanting to read their posts. One last recommendation that I have is that they should try promoting their Facebook page on other social media cites. If they’re already doing so, they should promote it even more so more people can look up their page and read their post.

 Overall, I think that both Facebook pages had some great things on their page and they also had some areas they can work on. One thing I will say is that for me, both pages had posts that were interesting and it’s posts that I would actually read on my own time. I thought that a lot of the posts were relevant and entertaining and that is something that I enjoyed the most about these two Facebook pages.

Analysis Activity #1

​Compare the two county pages.  Report on what they should be doing better, and what they should continue doing.  In your comparison you should give specific examples of what one county is doing better than the other, and what both can do to improve.  5 recommendations per city, minimum.  In your Tumblr post screen shots of the two top performing posts for each county’s page.

              San Francisco’s post seemed to be targeted more towards food, fun and entertainment. For example, 4 of the 5 top posts talk about things to do that weekend and the motivation key even talks about food. I am glad to see that voting registration deadline was one of the top posts.

            San Diego’s post seem to be targeted more towards veterans and military. This makes sense because San Diego has military bases, a large military population and a large population of veterans. Like San Francisco, San Diego had a trending post about the election.

San Francisco-

1.     I love the access to information about things to do. It creates a sense of community. I think it would be a good idea to include volunteer opportunities over the weekends!

2.     Like San Diego, SF should target a vulnerable population to help. (i.e. homeless population)

3.     San Francisco should bring awareness to city counsel meetings and sites. This will help residents to feel confident and comfortable to communicate with the city with issues they are facing.

4.     I would like to see SF post resources for the lesbian and gay community.

5.     I appreciate SF ecofriendly vibe. I love the recycle ideas the community presents. I would like for SF to help SD adopt these ideas.

San Diego-

1.     I love that San Diego has a lot of buzz about the military population. We too are creating a sense of community. I would like to see volunteer opportunities for military families in need.

2.     I love the resources available for vets and the show of appreciation for vets from San Diego. I would like to see more volunteer opportunities for vets.

3.     I think San Diego should have more information about things to do. San Diego has so many activities that having information on their page could bring in more people and more families to the events.

4.     I would like to see more information on San Diego eats. San Diego has a diverse food scene. Bringing restaurants to life would support restaurants that are up and coming.

5.     San Diego should bring awareness to city counsel meetings and sites. This will help residents to feel confident and comfortable to communicate with the city with issues they are facing.

Sell:

1. The goal of this commercial is to sell zyrtec, which the commercial says is the #1 prescribed allergy medicine. 

2. The destination is activation because it is telling anyone that has allergies, that their product is the best thing for them.

3. The channel would be TV and I believe it could have an impact and reach millions of viewers. Allergies are a problem for a lot of people and I would say the channel matches the intent of the piece very well.

Inform: 

1. The goal of this commercial is to inform parents on how kids need at least 60 minutes of physical activity every day. 

2. The destination is advising because obviously kids are not getting the 60 minutes of physical activity a day, and advising parents of this could help increase the amount of minutes that kids are involved in some form of physical activity.

3. The channel would be TV, but a still shot from this commercial could be taken and used on a billboard or even in a parent’s magazine. I think either forms of channels would work and would match the intent of this piece.

Change Behavior:

1. The goal of this commercial is to change behavior of those that smoke cigarettes. 

2. The destination could be both activation and advising. Activation because it is promoting behavior change from smoking and advising because it is showing that smoking can cause you to lose your teeth.

3. The channel would be TV, but a still shot from this commercial could be taken and used on a billboard or even near bus stops of liquor stores where cigarettes are sold. I think either forms of channels would work and would match the intent of this piece.

Entertain:

1. The goal of this video clip is to entertain the viewer on sex education. 

2. The destination would also be entertainment because it is not giving real information on sex education, but is doing so with comedy.

3. The channel would be TV since it is a movie. The point is to entertain the viewer and I believe this does a great job of providing entertainment to the viewer. 

The first video is in the category of entertainment. It doesn’t really provide information for voters other than entertainment value. It is designed to make people laugh.

The second example is an informational campaign. It is providing info on Zika and how to prevent contracting or spreading it. It falls under being similar to a public service announcement.

The DUI video with Helen Mirren is an appropriate and credible choice because she is calling out anyone who drinks and drives an idiot in a very polite and intelligent manner.  She tells it how it is in this video and there really is no beating around the bush. If you drink and drive it really isn’t the smartest choice to make and I think the audience needs this type of honesty in campaigns such as these. It also helped that Helen Mirren is a famous British celebrity because the tone would come off differently than if an American celebrity were to be in this campaign. 

Overall, I believe that the image below is very inappropriate and I think that it takes away from the message. This isn’t a picture that I would like to use in a presentation for students or families. Therefore, it defeats the purpose of everyone needing vitamin D when this image cannot be presented to everyone. This image very poorly conveys the main message.
