Ibn Rajab al-Hanbali (رحمه الله) stated:
كَانَ عَمْرُو بْنِ قَيْسٍ (رحمه الله) إِذَا دَخَلَ شَعْبَانُ ، أَغْلَقَ تِجَارَتَهُ ، وَتَفَرَّغَ لِقِرَاءَةِ الْقُرْآنِ ، وَكَانَ يَقُوْلُ : طُوْبَى لِمَنْ أَصْلَحَ نَفْسَهُ قَبْلَ رَمَضَانَ .
When the month of Sha'bān entered, Tābi'ī 'Amr b. Qays (رحمه الله) would close his business, devote himself to reciting the Qur'ān, and would say, 'Glad tidings for the one who rectifies himself before Ramadān.
