It's frankly off putting that HOTD is adapting Ormund Hightower as some complex yet morally righteous figure. When in the book, he's a cruel military leader with a child bride, whose whole cause is rooted in misogyny. He is yet another mouthpiece for the writers to shout about 'Targaryen madness', while he is actively trying to put his usurper Targaryen nephew (who is also cruel by every definition but I digress) on the Iron Throne.
Not only are the showrunners giving Ormund undeserving screen time, but are handing him book Corlys' characteristics. Now, Ormund is the richest man in the realm, with the largest standing army. While HOTD put the Velaryons in synthetic costumes and downplay the might of the Velaryon fleet.
