You look over the letter you received, very pleased that it seems this person finally has an interest in conversation.

You fold the letter into the envelope and stamp it shut, ready to be sent off.

You walk into the great hall for breakfast, heading towards the ravenclaw table.

“Boo”, you lean down to whisper in your friend’s ear.

“Holy, ‘____’ you can’t do that”, Ephraim says startled.

“I do it everytime, think you’d be used to it”, you say laughing sitting beside him.

A couple minutes pass

“Hey why aren’t you sitting with us?” Pansy says tapping you in the shoulder.

“Oh hi, I’m just with a different friend right now, sorry”

“He could come with you, I trust you have good judgement”

A few days pass of you and Ephraim sitting at their table.

“I don’t like him.” Mattheo says to the group before you two join them for breakfast.

“Is it really him that you don’t like?” Enzo says with a teasing tone.

“What are you on about now Berkshire”, he replies rolling his eyes.

“What he means is, are you sure it’s him you don’t like or him being around the new girl?” Blaise cuts Enzo off from answering.

“Pfft what, why would I care who’s around her.”

“Aye he better not care too much, she’s my friend here, don’t you try corrupting her Riddle”, Pansy glares at him.

“I don’t even like her sitting here, she already brought someone else over, it was better just being us.”

“Uh huh, jealous much?”

Mattheo gets back to his dorm, plopping down onto his mattress, when the letter catches his eye from the desk. He thinks for a minute and decides he’s ready to write a response.

In which Finney likes to fight and Reader prefers talking it out

Finney is walking away from another fight after school.

“Really?” You say starting to walk with him as he passes you.

“He started it,” He said not meeting your eyes.

“You sound like a 5 year old Finn.”

“Well he did”

“Hmm, yeah I’m so sure you didn’t contribute to it, you could’ve walked away you know,” You say stopping turning to face him.

“Yeah, yeah, yeah.”

A day passes and you see Finney walking away from yet another fight.

You scoff and catch his arm to stop him from passing by, “Again? It’s been a day.”

“He started it,” He said looking you in the eyes.

“That’s what you said yesterday, it’s always the other person right.”

“They’re the ones coming up to me.”

“Yeah and you can be the one to stop it.”

You’re both at his house after school.

“You know I really hate that you get into fights, especially so often”, You say as you watch him rewrap his knuckles.

“I know you do, but not everyone can be as non confrontational as you are”, He says looking over to meet your eyes.

“Well I can help teach you to be then”, You say moving towards him.

“Hmm, yeah I’d like that”, He said moving to hug you.

Mattheo looks down at the letter he received,

‘Seventeen,

I’m doing fine too, and potions class is a good choice. Do you have a favorite color? Or something you like to do when classes aren’t on?

He scoffs thinking, ‘I didn’t ask your opinion.” He then gets up for breakfast, leaving the letter.

Mattheo sits down with his friends at the table.

“Look who finally shows up,” Blaise said rolling his eyes.

“You can’t say anything, missing breakfast to sneak off with Pansy for the past week,” Mattheo says not looking up and beginning to eat.

“You’re just jealous you’re alone.”

“Sure I am.”

You enter the classroom searching for an empty seat, finding one towards the back,

“Is someone sitting here?”

“Hm? Oh, no no please sit,” A girl says adjusting in her seat, moving her things for to her side of the table as you sit down.

“Thank you, I’m ‘____’ by the way,” You say plopping down in your seat.

“Pretty name, I’m Pansy,” She said with a smile.

The professor walks in announcing that whoever you’re sat with will be your partner for the rest of this semester.

“Least I got a good partner,” Pansy says looking at you.

More classes pass, it’s now lunch time.

You sit make your way to your friends as you see Pansy waving you over to her instead, so you tell your friends you’ll see them in a bit.

“Hey! Guys this is my new friend, ‘____’, ‘____’ these are Blaise, Enzo Draco, Theo, and Mattheo,” Pansy says moving over so you can sit beside her.

They all say hello to you, some paying more attention than others.

“Aren’t you the idiot that couldn’t watch where you were going,” Mattheo says narrowing his walks at you.

“That happened forever ago, you’re still caught up in it? And I said I was sorry.”

“Yeah well maybe-“ He starts to say before Pansy cuts him off in a stern tone, “Riddle drop it.”

All the boys stop eating and look at her, as Mattheo does indeed drop it.

Mattheo gets back to his dorm later that night and tries to sleep, but something makes him feel as though he should respond.

‘Four,

I like black, and I just hang around my friends. Is there anything you like to do?

Ernesto is sitting in class when he hears a few other students talking and they mention your name.

“I mean yeah she’s fun to look at, but have you ever tried to have a conversation with her? It’s an immediate migraine, I can’t believe Arellano stays with her”, one girl says.

“Maybe she’s doing things for him, if you know what I mean”, the other says winking at her friend.

Ernesto just stares at them getting ready to say something as the bell rings and everyone gets up to leave the class.

You plop down beside Ernesto at lunch, “I’m starving”, you say groaning and dragging out the word.

He just looks at you and you say, “Is everything ok?”

“Huh? Yeah yeah of course, just hungry too”, He says shaking his head, trying to rid himself of the words he heard earlier.

“Hmm if you say so, I got my essay back earlier”, you say in remembrance.

“Oh really how’d you do?”

“I got a C, which is better than I’ve been doing!”, You say excitedly.

“Hey so the extra studying is paying off, I’m proud of you”, He says putting an arm around you.

You two were talking sitting on the floor of his bedroom, you laugh at a joke he said throwing your head back and wack it off the wall.

“Ouch”, You say wincing rubbing your head.

He laughs and pats your head, “You’re so pretty”

You smile wide and lean into him.

You’re sat on your bed filing through the mail you’ve received before heading off to breakfast and notice a letter,

‘Four,

I don’t see the point in this but apparently I’ve got to reply to you. Answering your questions I’m doing fine, and I don’t like any of the classes, I guess potions is the most bearable.

You look at it confused but excited you finally got a response, keeping in mind to write back later, then leaving your dorm to head to breakfast and meet your friends.

On your way you spot your friends in the hall and wave as you make your way towards them, but you bump into someone.

You stumble slightly, “Oh I’m sorry”, looking up and seeing a boy with dark curls.

He grumbles and borderline glares at you, “Just watch where you’re going”, then walks away.

You roll your eyes and continue walking to your friends as they look at you confused as to what had happened and you shrug your shoulders.

“What just happened?”, your friend, Lorelei, asked you.

“Some jerk”, you say then continuing on, “he acted like I kicked his dog or something.”

“Well that’s rude”, she says as your other friends nod in unison, heading to breakfast.

Mattheo meets his friends at breakfast and sits down.

Theo looks at him, “What took you so long man”

“I bumped into some moron”, He said taking a bite of toast, “and she looked at me like it was my fault she’s blind.”

“I’m sure she didn’t mean to”, Lorenzo said sympathetically.

“Sure she didn’t, she should learn to walk then”, Mattheo scoffs.

You sit down at breakfast with your friends and put some food on your plate.

“Hey so have you got a letter back yet, I’ve heard other students talking and pretty much everyone has got one”, Layla says leaning in to speak in a whisper only you and your group could hear.

You listen, then lean in to respond in the same volume, “I actually have, whoever it is doesn’t sound very thrilled to write to me though.”

“Well whoever it is must not have good taste, you’re great”, Riley buds into the conversation, nudging your arm.

“I don’t think it’s specifically about me, they don’t even know it’s me, I think this assignment just puts a bad taste in people’s mouths”, You say trying to end the conversation and start eating your food.

“The point still stands though”, Riley says letting the conversation end, changing the subject to her own letters.

You get back to your dorm, after getting ready for bed you realize you haven’t wrote a response yet, so you sit down at your desk.

‘Seventeen,

After a few moments of contemplation he decides to just throw it in a desk drawer.

You sit at breakfast with a few of your friends taking a sip of your drink, hearing one say “Have you still not got a letter back?”

You swallow your drink, wiping your mouth, “It’s only been a day, it’s not like it’s been a decade Riley”

She rolls her eyes and flicks you lightly on the forehead, “Yeah but it’s a big assignment for Transfiguration, you’d think whoever you were assigned would’ve at least sent you one back telling you off.”

You scrunch your face and rub your forehead, “I mean maybe, or maybe whoever it is hasn’t seen it yet, or hasn’t got time”

That earns one of your other friends, Kyra, to speak up, “You’re too forgiving, for once can you not sound obnoxiously optimistic”

You roll your eyes, “It’s not optimism, it’s understandment, maybe you should try it out sometime.”

“Yeah yeah, maybe someday.”

“Yo Matt what about you”, Theo says tossing a rolled up piece of bread at his face.

Mattheo scoffs, tossing the piece back, “What about me for what Theo”

“What do you think about this whole ‘experiment’ McGonagall has us doing”

He leans back, stretching his arms behind his back, “I think it’s ridiculous, are you guys actually going along with it.”

“Yes? It’s part of a grade, she said she’ll take points off your house if she sees you haven’t tried”, Lorenzo says leaning slightly over the table.

“That’s bloody stupid, I don’t need to write to some random person, this isn’t the 1800s”

Theo scoffs, “We all think it’s dumb, doesn’t take away the fact we’ve got to do it Mattheo.”

Mattheo gets back to his dorm that night after dinner, he sits at his desk, staring at the letter that sat in front of him.

“She’ll take points away, it’s for a grade”, He says under his breath in a mocking tone, “Whatever, get this over with I guess.”

I don’t see the point in this but apparently I’ve got to reply to you. Answering your questions I’m doing fine, and I don’t like any of the classes, I guess potions is the most bearable.
