for reference this started as a copy of pokemon red running on a super game boy

this was triple total control. first they reprogrammed pokémon red using bytecode manipulation. then they took control of the super game boy, THEN they took control of the super nintendo, THEN they started streaming twitch chat through the controller cables it’s insane

Okay so this is super amazing. I didn’t get this at first why they’d call it that. They’re basically just streaming twitch chat on an emulator, but the best part is how they did it - by tossing some pokemon and changing Red’s inventory INSIDE THE GAME, they were able to make it so that it perfectly resembles code.

It’s sort of like this gif below. Everything is stored in 1s and 0s, but those 1s and 0s could represent items, it could represent words. They found the exact item and QUANTITY of each item that would correspond to a word of code.

That way they injected their own script that let them take over first Pokemon Red, then the Game Boy being emulated, and then the entire emulator itself. Triple total control.
