This used to be on Dillons Grocery store paper bags in Kansas (where I grew up) and being a little girl, I used to be somewhat scared of tornadoes until I studied them and chased them. My parents used to throw those bags at me with this image on it. My parents were assholes!

Okay, I admit it, please don't judge but I rate tornadoes differently than meteorologists do. For example, if a tornado doesn't do any damage to buildings or houses, it's a happy tornado. But if it destroys or k*lls, it's an angry one!

Keep Weather Alerts A Public Feature
For over 150 years, the National Weather Service has provided free, life-saving forecasts to every American. From tornado warnings to hurricane tracking, it has been our first line of defense in dangerous weather. Now, Donald Trump and his allies are working to sell it off to private companies.
Investigative journalists revealed their plan to turn the National Weather Service into a for-profit subscription model. Their goal is to create a cash cow for the multibillion-dollar private weather industry, including companies tied to Trump’s political circle.
Trump’s pick to lead the agency is a former industry insider who has pushed Congress to rely more on private companies and backed Trump’s budget cuts. And Project 2025, the far-right blueprint for dismantling public services, calls for breaking apart the National Weather Service and fully commercializing its work.
Privatization would be catastrophic. It would restrict climate scientists’ access to data, limit public warnings during disasters, and open the door to price-gouging as storms approach. When a hurricane is coming, no one should have to decide whether they can afford the forecast.
As someone who just lived through the devastating flooding here in Hill Country, Texas, there are so many of us who were saved due to access to those free alerts, as well as so many in rural areas who wouldn't be able to ever afford those alerts if they were put into a subscription type service. Access to life-saving information should NOT be gifted to only those in a wealthy class.

Hi y'all. I'm from the southwestern part of Kansas and I'm OBSESSED with tornadoes! I saw my first tornado when I was 5 years old in 1982. I remember that day well: my dad was working on a farm just west of town and my mom and I was at home. My dad called my mom and said that there was a bad storm coming and for us to get ready to go find a basement (we lived in a single wide trailer that didn't have shelter) if the storm gets worse. Well, a TORNADO WARNING was issued for the county we lived in and my mom and I was walking to a friend's house who had a basement. There was two men on top of the Coor's distribution building who yelled at us to look down the road and THERE IT WAS!! It was picking up a freight train and threw it like it was a toy. My mom and I ran to that basement and took shelter. When it was all clear, we went back home and my dad came home in his truck. We then took off to the southwestern part of town where we saw another one, a large wedge tornado. This one picked up a combine and tossed it while destroying a farm building. I became fascinated with them!! I've spent all of my life studying them, and yes, even chased them but regrettably never took pictures of them. Someday, before I get too old, I'd like to go back out into the field!
