we all know jet tried to kill innocent people.  he also tried to expose zuko and iroh as fire benders, when they are clearly refugees that gain nothing from the fire nation. this is him being BIG PICTURE. he is incapable of thinking about zuko and iroh as individuals.  they are only an extension of the fire nation, even though they are victims of it. they are victims of it, JUST LIKE JET IS. the only difference between them, is jet isnt a fire bender. he is all BIG PICTURE.

however, zuko is different. when he tries to capture aang, he only goes for aang. he leaves villages alone.  he uses intimidation tactics, and usually no one is hurt. he follows aang, but only aang. because zuko is so focussed on the gaang, three or four people, he is able to broaden his perspective to include and care about others. he learns what real honor is (not skill or ranking, but true justice) and he learns to reflect inwardly and change outwardly.

Ty Lee was extremely agile and it almost seemed as though she's aided by air with how light and floaty she is in some moves she does throughout the series. It could be very possible and very canon that she is an Airbender descended from one of these Air Nation survivors and didn't say anything because she herself didn't know it, only her great great grandfather or grandmother did. Maybe she's the only surviving Airbender in her entire family and that's why she never noticed too, because nobody else would have been suspicious and looked out for any signs of Airbending in the rest of the family.

Maybe that's why she joined the circus, why she wanted to seem different, and why she was so bright all the time too - because Airbenders have great senses of humour and fun. They also deflect a lot, which Ty Lee also seems to do when Azula, or even some boys are involved... she was a peace keeper between Mai and Azula right up until one's life was threatened by the other and she had to act. Maybe she was a fucking Airbender without realising it herself...
